I’ve started a newsletter for things I learn about coffee, hospitality, food and wine. I also post non-coffee things that grabbed my attention.

Conferences were wild during my first years in coffee.
I remember once being blown away by @ReneRedzepiNoma @doug_zell @timwendelboe @jimseven @HamishDAnderson and @OliverStrand sharing their insights.
I managed to take a group selfie with them afterwards 🥹

When you’re interviewing a potential new staffer and they drop “third wave” and look at you like…hope she knows what I’m referring to.
Show me you started in coffee before 2010 without saying you started in coffee before 2010.
I’ll go first:
First time I competed in a barista competition, I was required to provide milk and sugar on the side with all drinks for the judges.

Dune reminded me of Harry Potter movies: greatest hits moments from detail-packed text selected & strung together with disregard for overall plot arc, pacing, character development; obscure to those unfamiliar with source.
Aesthetically sophisticated but narratively impoverished.
Instant favorite. Fantastic and eye-opening as always.

Over the past two years I have made it a point to buy whole bean coffee. It’s is the Wild West out there you guys. I’m drinking this $20+ 12oz bag of Rwanda, and it tastes like it’s five years old. Awful. This KEEPS HAPPENING. ———————————A thread - – at St Paul, MN
Long time since my last update, but I haven’t given up.
For the sake of personal accountability, I’m planning on sending at least 6 more letters before the year ends.

☕️Quarantine hotel coffee tips☕️
Spending first days of summer vacation in a quarantine hotel in Iceland. My only access to coffee is instant.
Since I am bored, here are a few tips on how to make your morning cup of instant drinkable during quarantine
A thread 🧵
1️⃣Scoop some coffee in the cup
2️⃣Fill cup with boiled water
3️⃣Wait 4 minutes
4️⃣Skim off the top layer of coffee and discard
5️⃣Wait ~ 5-10 minutes before drinking
Step5️⃣ is optional if you want the coffee to self-filtrate. The longer you wait, the more sludge sinks to the bottom.
