The Minister of Aviation and Airport Development of the Republic of #Somaliland, Hon. Fuad Ahmed Nuh, today briefed the Council of Ministers on his official trip to Canada and his meetings with partner countries and various international bodies regarding the Government of Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to resolve airspace management rights, E-Visa obstacles, and the disruption of civilian flights. The Minister shared with the Council the outcomes of his meetings in Montreal with key stakeholders involved in the legal argument and case of the Republic of Somaliland, noting that Montreal serves as the global headquarters for major aviation organizations (ICAO, IATA). Furthermore, the Minister briefed the Council on the Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) system announced by the Mogadishu administration. He clarified that this system does not apply to Somaliland and will not be implemented at airports across the Republic of Somaliland. He highlighted that on October 25, 2026, the Ministry issued an official Directive that took immediate effect, instructing airline companies operating in Somaliland that they cannot utilize Mogadishu's BSP system, and that tickets issued under that system will not be accepted for departure at Somaliland airports, even if purchased outside Somaliland or issued as return travel tickets. The Minister informed the Council that airline operators have been instructed to communicate this directive to their travel agents and ticket issuance offices. Finally, the Minister stated that the Government of Somaliland is pursuing robust legal and diplomatic measures to secure full rights over its airspace management, receiving support and collaboration from partner nations and international aviation bodies.

Policymakers, institutional investors, technology executives, and foreign policy experts will convene in Sydney on November 19, 2026, for The Jerusalem Post Asia-Pacific / Australia Summit, a high-level conference designed to deepen bilateral security, commercial, and technological ties between Israel, Australia, and key regional partners. Among the delegations seeking to leverage the international forum is #Somaliland, which aims to present itself as a stable, strategic maritime anchor connecting the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the wider Indo-Pacific trade corridor. According to analysis by Mohamed Osman, the summit provides Somaliland with a practical venue to convert its geographic advantage beside the Gulf of Aden and the Bab el-Mandeb strait, one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, into durable economic and security partnerships. The Sydney conference agenda centers on three strategic pillars: defense and intelligence cooperation, cross-border trade, and dual-use technology partnerships across cybersecurity, agritech, water management, clean energy, and critical infrastructure defense. With persistent security pressures along Red Sea shipping lanes impacting global supply chains, Somaliland officials plan to highlight the Republic's role in maritime domain awareness, counter-piracy operations, and logistics security along the Gulf of Aden corridor. Central to Somaliland’s commercial presentation is the multi-million-dollar Berbera Port and trade corridor infrastructure, which serves as an emerging trade gateway for the Horn of Africa. By focusing on tangible cooperation in lower-risk sectors, such as arid-zone agritech, water desalination, cybersecurity, and maritime surveillance, Somaliland seeks to build commercial commitments while reinforcing its narrative as a reliable, democratic partner in an unstable region. The author notes that participating in high-profile Indo-Pacific forums enables Somaliland representatives to engage directly with ministers, diplomats, and international business leaders.

Former President of #Somalia and opposition leader Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has accused Somalia's term-expired President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of being responsible for recent government troop military setbacks in regions of South-West State. In an official press release issued tonight, Sheikh Sharif stated that the national army is the nation's most precious asset, emphasizing that the life of a Somalian soldier cannot be gambled with or exploited to advance political ambitions and personal self-interest. Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed called for an independent investigation into the military defeat, proposing the following measures: 1) To conduct a transparent and independent investigation into the causes behind repeated military losses, and to hold accountable anyone involved in negligence or issuing operational orders that contradict professional military counsel. 2) To guarantee the operational independence of the military command and shield it from political interference, which has compromised morale, battle planning, and troop safety. 3) To establish a national comprehensive framework to care for wounded service members, support parents, orphans, and families of fallen troops who died defending the country, and restore statutory entitlements previously withheld from them.
