Elephant Calf Rescued in Bagdogra, Reunited With Mother
Bagdogra, October 25: A 15-day-old elephant calf that fell into a septic tank inside the Indian Army's 16 FAD premises at Bengdubi, near Bagdogra, was rescued and reunited with its mother on Sunday after a challenging operation involving Army personnel, forest officials and veterinary staff.
The incident was reported around 4 am when the calf became trapped inside the tank. Its mother reportedly tried to rescue it but could not pull the young elephant out. Army personnel alerted the Forest Department, and a rescue team was dispatched to the location. Forest officials broke open part of the septic tank structure to free the calf. However, bringing the animal out was only the first part of the operation. The bigger challenge was finding its mother and ensuring that she would accept it back.

Satellite-Tagged Amur Falcons Return to Manipur After Migration Across 23 Countries
Manipur, October 25: Two satellite-tagged Amur falcons, named Alang and Apapang, have reportedly returned to Manipur after undertaking remarkable long-distance migrations across 23 countries, highlighting the extraordinary endurance and navigational abilities of these migratory birds.
Amur falcons are among the world's most remarkable long-distance migratory raptors. They breed in East Asia and travel to southern Africa, crossing vast stretches of land and sea during their annual migration.
Satellite-tracking technology allows researchers to follow their movements, identify important stopover locations and better understand the environmental challenges they encounter.
Why Manipur Matters ?
Northeastern India serves as an important stopover region for Amur falcons during their seasonal journeys. The birds gather in large numbers to feed and build energy reserves before continuing their migration.
Their movements also throws light on the importance of international cooperation in protecting migratory species, whose survival depends on habitats spread across several countries.

Langur Hugs Shopkeeper in Viral CCTV Video from Odisha
Odisha, October 25: An unusual encounter between a wild langur and a mobile shopkeeper has captured attention across social media after CCTV footage showed the animal climbing onto the man's lap and wrapping its arms around him.
The incident reportedly occurred at a mobile repair shop in Odisha on October 22, although the exact location has not been independently confirmed.
The footage shows the langur entering the shop, approaching the seated shopkeeper and resting its head against his chest. Despite appearing startled, the man remains remarkably calm as the animal embraces him.
Another person reportedly moved away when the langur entered the premises.
The video, widely circulated on October 24, has prompted thousands of reactions, with viewers describing the encounter as an unexpected moment of affection between a human and a wild animal.
However, the reason behind the langur's behaviour remains unknown. There is no verified evidence that the animal was seeking affection, recognising an acquaintance or expressing distress.
The encounter has also prompted reminders that wild animals can behave unpredictably, even when they appear calm.

October 24, 2026: The Century's Last Pythagorean Theorem Day
October 25, 2026: Yesterday's date, October 24, 2026, marked a rare mathematical coincidence known as Pythagorean Theorem Day, the last such date of the 21st century.
Written in the American month-day-year format, the date becomes 10/24/26. These three numbers form a Pythagorean triple, satisfying the famous equation:
10² + 24² = 26²
100 + 576 = 676
The equation, commonly associated with the ancient Greek mathematician Pythagoras, describes the relationship between the three sides of a right-angled triangle.
The next Pythagorean Theorem Day will fall on March 4, 2105 (3/4/05), nearly 79 years from now.

Prakriti Malla: Nepali Girl Whose Handwriting Looks Like Computer-Printed Text Captures Global Attention
Kathmandu, October 25: A handwritten school assignment that first caught the internet's attention nearly a decade ago has once again brought Nepal's Prakriti Malla into the spotlight. Her remarkably neat handwriting, often compared to computer-printed text, continues to fascinate people across the world.
Malla was just 14 years old and studying in Class 8 at Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya in Nepal when photographs of her English handwriting began circulating widely on social media in 2017.
What made her writing extraordinary was its remarkable consistency. Every letter appeared carefully formed, with almost identical spacing between words and perfectly aligned sentences. Many viewers initially found it difficult to believe that the pages had been written by hand rather than printed using a computer.

CERT-In PHP2Shell Alert: India, UK Warn of Critical PHP Flaws Threatening Websites Worldwide
The CERT-In PHP2Shell alert has triggered an urgent cybersecurity warning for Indian website operators, as authorities in India and the United Kingdom call for immediate security updates following the discovery of two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, the programming language used by millions of websites worldwide.
India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, issued vulnerability note CIVN-2026-0510 on October 21, identifying serious security weaknesses that could allow remote attackers to execute malicious code on affected servers.
The warning was reinforced by the United Kingdom's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which issued its own advisory on the same day, urging organisations to identify vulnerable PHP installations, apply security patches and examine exposed systems for possible compromise.
The vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, have been assigned critical severity ratings of 9.2 under the CVSS 4.0 scoring system.
The security threat is particularly significant because the flaws affect PHP itself rather than an individual website plugin, theme or content management system.
