My @TorontoStar column: Doug Ford is on a bike lane witch hunt and making magical promises. It’s a distraction. What he really wants is for you to pay no attention to the housing policy failure behind the curtain. Ontario housing starts are down big. thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

Wrong: "Heat pumps run on fossil fuels anyway..." ❌ Right: In the UK, gas boilers use 4x more fossil fuels than heat pumps. Heat pumps would still use less fossil fuels even if all of their electricity came from coal, oil and gas. ✅

Again, NIMBYs making building everything cost a lot more.
£100m to build a shed to protect a bat colony near HS2, despite there being no evidence that the trains would do it any harm The mess that has been made of HS2 - and building infrastructure in the UK more generally - in a nutshell theguardian.com/uk-news/2024…

The carbon footprint of the shed… 😬

Left NIMBYs own so much of the current mess in the Anglosphere
Replying to @YIMBYLAND
Liberal lawmakers should take note and start asap making it easier to build housing in their cities. You have shot yourselves in the foot by refusing to do so for decades.

Well that's not up to code. A kid could easily fall right through there. The city's out there building several state-of-the-art $60-million recreation centres in the suburbs, while existing facilities in the core are stuck in the 1960s.

Unfortunately the Ottawa Sparks St Mall does not look like this. And this is a multi-line Amsterdam tram track, not just for tourists.

Contemporary Conservatism: ‘I won’t make your life any better, but I’ll make you feel better by making other people’s lives worse’
If we’re being honest, this is all their argument really comes down to.

The @MailOnline and @Telegraph recently ran stories about an electric bin lorry fire This was despite the fact that the fire was caused by some flammable waste... ...and had nothing to do with the vehicle's electric drive train A case study in EV misinformation (a thread)

The scariest thing about Halloween is #OttCity streets and intersections.  If you must drive tonight, please drive slowly and stay alert, especially in residential neighbourhoods. #otttraffic #Halloween2024 👻🎃💀🎃👻💀

If Doug starts removing bike lanes I think that’s the thing that will finally have me packing it up and leaving Ontario. Politicization of basic low cost infrastructure, while the province fails to cost effectively construct transit infrastructure. It’s unserious.

They claimed traffic congestion was caused by trains, street cars, wide sidewalks, urban neighborhoods... So we destroyed all those things to "solve traffic", yet traffic is worse than ever. Now they're blaming bike lanes? It has always just been cars - cars cause congestion.

Not enough operators may not be a technical problem with the LRT system, but it’s a big factor in the reliability of that system. #ottnews ottawacitizen.com/news/local…
