Russia's war losses may have hit 2.1 million troops with up to 770 thousand killed, according to a new Economist estimate, a sharp jump from its May figure of 280 to 518 thousand dead. The Economist now puts total casualties at 1.4 to 2.1 million and deaths at 374 to 770 thousand, up from 900 thousand to 1.3 million total and 190 to 350 thousand killed back in July 2025. Ukraine's General Staff separately puts total Russian casualties at around 1,588,170 as of October 31, with Russia losing an average of 1750 troops a day in October alone. Ukrainian forces meanwhile advanced 73 square kilometers over the past three months, retaking about half the territory Russia seized this year. economist.com/interactive/gr…

During negotiations in the United States, an incident occurred that literally left the American delegation speechless. When the Ukrainian representatives learned that sanctions against Putin were being lifted and that Washington was demanding an end to strikes on Russian oil refineries, Budanov and Umerov reacted extremely harshly. At the very end of the meeting, when the participants had already risen from the table and were heading toward the exit, they threw these words straight in the Americans’ faces: “Now we’re going to fucking burn every Russian oil refinery and port to the fucking ground. Every last one!” According to reports, the Americans were so stunned by what they heard that they couldn't find anything to say in response. No objections, no threats, no usual diplomatic language. Just silence. Washington received an unmistakable message: Ukraine has no intention of asking permission to defend itself against Russian aggression. P.S. 🇺🇦❤️ He could have spent billions on yachts, mansions, and a life of luxury. Instead, he chose to help Ukraine. His name is Howard Buffett. He is 71 years old and the son of legendary American billionaire Warren Buffett. Since Russia's full-scale invasion, his foundation has committed approximately $1.33 BILLION to helping Ukraine! And these aren't just numbers. Here's what that generosity means: 🍞 642 million meals funded for Ukrainians affected by the war. 🚜 823,000 hectares of farmland cultivated with support from his foundation, helping farmers whose equipment was destroyed by Russia. 🦾 $77 million for Superhumans, helping wounded Ukrainian soldiers and civilians receive prosthetics and rehabilitation. 💣 $167 million for demining, clearing Ukrainian land of deadly Russian explosives. 🏠 344,000 windows replaced in war-damaged buildings. 📚 $8.9 million to restore Kharkiv's Factor-Druk printing house after a Russian missile strike. And here's something even more remarkable: 🇺🇦 Howard Buffett has personally visited Ukraine 27 times! He visits devastated communities, meets farmers, and witnesses the consequences of Russia's war firsthand. In December 2023, his name was added to Kyiv's Walk of the Brave. But his greatest legacy isn't a monument. It's the lives saved, homes rebuilt, fields cultivated, and Ukrainians given hope again. ❤️ The world has plenty of wealthy people. Far fewer are willing to devote their wealth, time, and hearts to helping strangers thousands of miles away. Thank you, Howard Buffett. Ukraine will never forget your kindness. 🇺🇦🇺🇸 P.S. Residents evacuated from Russian-occupied Oleshky have now crossed the border into Ukraine and are safe. The oldest person is 94, while the youngest is just over a year old. Another woman will celebrate her 49th birthday tomorrow. Among those evacuated is a family who lived in a building devastated by shelling. Due to his health condition, the father couldn't get down from the eighth floor on his own, and the staircase had been destroyed. The family was cut off from food and water. Another man survived 16 Russian drone attacks and four missile strikes on his home. One of the explosions occurred just a meter from the wall of his house. The residents' pets were also brought to safety, including dogs, cats, a parrot, and even a raccoon.

Russia is burning again. 🔥🍾🔥🍾🔥🍾 "Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez" oil refinery, Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
Attack on one of Russia’s largest oil refineries: fire breaks out at the facility. A fire has broken out at the "Lukoil-Nishegorodnefteorgsintez" facility in Kstovo (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast). Following the attack, queues formed at local gas stations. The facility processes approximately 17 million tons of oil annually (around 340,000 barrels per day) and produces fuels and lubricants.

"Putin will wage war. I don’t know when, but he will. And you, Europeans, will be surprised to discover that this war is aimed at you, too... You think that what is happening in Moscow has nothing to do with you—that it’s our problem. Putin hates people like me, certainly. But through us—in Russia, or through the revolutionaries in Ukraine or Georgia—it is you he hates: your democracy, your society, your freedoms. Do you think his regime is merely a threat to us? Your awakening will be brutal." Anna Politkovskaya, in Paris, 2005. She was assassinated in the lobby of her apartment building on October 7, 2006—Putin’s birthday.

"Russia also appeared to be seeking to present a carefully staged picture of the humanitarian mission. According to Oleshky residents interviewed by the Media Initiative for Human Rights (MIHR), Russian forces selected an evacuation route that avoided the town's most heavily destroyed areas, while clearing the road of debris, damaged military equipment, and rubble ahead of the operation. One resident told MIHR that Russian forces were effectively creating an image for American television that "it's not that terrible in Oleshky," despite entire neighborhoods having been reduced to ruin." kyivindependent.com/oleshky-…

I absolutely love this one: “Ukraine is the most corrupt country in the world” and “all Western aid gets stolen.” And yet, somehow, Ukraine is about to enter the sixth year of its full-scale war against Russia, which not only has failed to defeat it all this time, but is now itself taking strikes on its own territory all the way to western Siberia. Apparently, some people seriously believe that you can fight a years-long war of attrition against the entire military and economic might of Russia and its totalitarian allies, such as the Iranian regime and North Korea, in roughly the same way roads get built in the world's truly most corrupt places: you get, say, a million monies from the corrupt authorities' budget. You kick back 30% to the officials who gave you the contract, pocket another 50% yourself, and then use whatever crumbs are left to “build a road,” however the hell you feel like it, with the quality you'd expect. Well, no, my dear friends. Ukraine as a state is extraordinarily far from perfect, and not just when it comes to fighting corruption. But I'm sorry, the “most corrupt countries in the world” would never have managed to stay on their feet, let alone put up a fight against a giant as overwhelmingly powerful as Russia, even if the entire West had handed over its entire GDP to them in one go.

During the evacuation from Russian-occupied Oleshky, people from nearby settlements who asked for help along the way were also picked up and brought to safety. Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said the mission aimed to give everyone who needed to leave a chance to do so safely: "They said they wanted to go to Ukraine. The discussion didn’t last very long, and we took everyone with us. We took absolutely everyone who wanted to leave. Even though this was not exactly a pre-arranged operation, but rather an impromptu decision, the most important thing is that we were able to evacuate this group of our citizens as well."
Residents of Oleshky meet a Ukrainian delegation. According to Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, the ceasefire remains in effect. Humanitarian aid has been delivered to the city, and transportation has already been arranged for residents who want to leave for Ukrainian-controlled territory.

The USA is turning into Russia. October 29. A Halloween celebration on the South Lawn of the White House. Trump and his wife hand out candy to children in costumes. One pair of siblings, in particular, drew attention: the boy was wearing a Russian camouflage uniform and a peaked cap with a red star, while the girl wore a *sarafan* (traditional dress) and a *kokoshnik* (traditional headdress). As it turned out, these were the children of Stephen Miller—the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and an advisor on domestic security. This means that the U.S. stance on the war in Ukraine is not determined solely by Trump’s tender and deep-seated affection for Putin. Pretty much everyone in that administration is of the same mold. In high-level politics, there are no coincidences; the fact that a government official and advisor to Trump would dress his children in such costumes and bring them before the cameras to meet the presidential couple is a clear signal.
