This local processing approach for engineering Si quantum emitters with femtosecond (fs) laser pulses paves the way toward large-scale integration of selected quantum emitters and the realization of Si-based quantum networks.

The femtosecond (fs) laser irradiation approach to locally write and erase G, and Ci centers in silicon-on-insulator (SOI).
A single fs laser pulse (pulse duration of 90 fs), with wavelength centered at 800 nm, was used for irradiation at varied fluences to locally form and erase quantum emitters.

Spatial Multiplexing
Femtosecond laser irradiation allows arrays of thousands of individual G- or C-center clusters to be written across a single silicon-on-insulator (SOI) chip. Each cluster acts as an independent, sub-micron sensory pixel mapped to a specific cellular or molecular domain, enabling massive spatial parallelism.
Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM)
Because G-centers (O-band) and C-centers (L-band) emit at distinct spectral windows, a single integrated optical waveguide can route both data streams simultaneously without cross-talk.
Biological event A can be assigned to modulate a G-center array, while biological event B modulates a C-center array on the same physical bus.
All-Optical Routing
The modulated emissions from the color centers are captured directly by on-chip silicon photonic structures (such as ring resonators or photonic crystal cavities). This light can be used for optical computing operations—such as matrix-vector multiplication in a neuromorphic photonic network—processing the biological data natively in the optical domain before it is ever converted into traditional electronic bitstreams.

Graphene Field-Effect Transistors (G-FETs) for Sensing Ion-Channel Coupled Receptors (ICCRs): Toward Biohybrid Nanoelectronics for Chemical Detection
Graphene field effect transistors (G-FETs) have appeared as suitable candidates for sensing charges in ion flux and chemical reactions. G-FETs high sensitivity, chemical robustness, transparency, and bendability offer a unique combination for interfacing living and soft matters.
By combining G-FETs w/ ICCRs their ability to sense targeted biomolecules is demonstrated. (ICCRs) are naturally or artificially expressed within living cell membranes to generate ion fluxes in the presence of chemicals of interest.
Here, those biosensors are successfully combined with a G-FET array which converts the bio-activation of the ICCRs into readable electronic signals. This hybrid bioelectronic device leverages the advantages of the biological receptor and the graphene field effect transistor enabling the selective detection of biomolecules, which is a current shortcoming of electronic sensors.
Additionally, the G-FET allows for discrimination of the polarity of the ion fluxes which otherwise remains hidden from conventional electrophysiological recordings.
