Haha! This is like every gareeb who becomes successful saying, “Main street light ke neeche padhta tha,” or every successful actor saying, “Main platform par sota tha.” Every year, lakhs of Indian students go to the US for higher education, with almost everyone hoping to find a job and settle there. Yet, most of them (81% as per current data) eventually have to return, mostly because of unemployment, visa issues, and immigration uncertainty, which has worsened many times over since Trump came back. Each one of them could then claim that they came back after watching Swades and wanted to serve their country. Btw, SRK’s character in Swades was a NASA scientist who left a lucrative job to return to India. Which job did Dipke left? He was unemployed. Aur Swades se inspired tha to gaya ki kyon tha? Not that he was going there to study engineering or medicine, which he could then put to use for his village; he did a master’s in public relations instead.

So now the Prime Minister is expected to sack the Education Minister because a pressure campaign demands it? The NEET paper leak was investigated, the racketeers were arrested, and systemic loopholes were plugged. Accountability was pursued. That should have been the logical conclusion. If the self-appointed revolutionaries, professional agitators, and headline hunters who persuaded Sonam Wangchuk to join this agitation are truly concerned about his health, why don't they take over the hunger strike and ask him to step aside? Why is every responsibility conveniently outsourced to the PM? THIS ISN'T ABOUT SAVING A LIFE; IT'S ABOUT SUSTAINING A NARRATIVE. A NATION CANNOT BE GOVERNED BY ULTIMATUMS OR EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL. #PoliticalTheatre
The person who can save Sonam Wangchuk’s life today is NARENDRA MODI. Convince him to end his Ego Strike. Ask him to sack Dharmendra Pradhan. No wonder you guys have downgraded India to 157th rank in the world.

Before it took off, the bird ate parts of its own liver, kidneys, and gut. That was the only way to be light enough to fly. Then it flew 8,425 miles from Alaska to Australia, in 11 days, without eating, drinking, or landing once. The bird is called B6. It's a bar-tailed godwit, four months old, weighing about as much as a can of beans. In October 2022, scientists at the US Geological Survey tracked its flight from Alaska all the way to Tasmania. The trip took 11 days and 1 hour. It is still the longest non-stop flight of any animal on Earth. For two weeks before takeoff, godwits eat until they almost double in weight. Fat ends up being 55% of their body, more than any bird ever measured. Then they shrink their own insides. About a quarter of their liver, kidneys, stomach, and intestines gets broken down and reused for fuel, making room for the extra fat and cutting weight. Their heart and wing muscles grow bigger at the same time. They never drink along the way. The water they need comes out of burning fat, the same reaction their muscles use for energy. They also never really sleep. B6 flapped its wings for 264 straight hours, cruising around 35 miles per hour with help from storm tailwinds. By the time it landed, it had lost almost half its body weight. The shrunken organs grew back over the following weeks. Scientists still cannot explain the navigation. B6 had never made this flight before. Adult godwits leave Alaska weeks earlier, so young birds fly alone with nobody to follow. How a four-month-old bird finds its way across 8,425 miles of open ocean to a place it has never seen is still an open question. About 100,000 bar-tailed godwits leave Alaska every fall. Most of them land in New Zealand or Australia 10 or 11 days later, having eaten parts of themselves to get there.
#BREAKING🚨: This 5-month-old just flew 8,425 miles from Alaska to Australia with no food, no water and zero stops for 11 days straight
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The incredible non-stop migration of the bar-tailed godwit is real, but the map shows an incorrect path over the Atlantic instead of the Pacific. This refers to a 2022 event, not recent news. Godwits fly south from Alaska in fall; spring migration is northbound. usgs.gov/centers/alaska… datazone.birdlife.org/articles/the-b…

Drink where the horse drinks. A horse will never drink bad water. Make your bed where the cat lies down. Eat fruit that has been touched by a worm. Feel free to pick mushrooms that gnats land on. Plant a tree where a mole digs the ground. Build a house where a snake basks. Dig a well where birds nest in the heat. Lie down and mate with chickens - you will have the golden grain of the day. Eat more greens - you will have strong legs and an enduring heart, like a beast. Swim more often, and you will feel at home on land as a fish does in water. Look at the sky more often than at your feet, and your thoughts will be clear and light. Be silent more than you speak, and silence will settle in your soul, and your spirit will be peaceful and calm.

The Aftermath of a Father Digging a Grave for His 2-Year-Old Daughter: In 2017, Zhang Liyong, from a rural village in Sichuan, learned that his two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with severe thalassemia. The treatment required a hematopoietic stem cell transplant, with total costs approaching nearly one million yuan RMB. To save their daughter, Zhang Liyong and his wife exhausted all their family savings but still couldn’t afford the subsequent medical expenses. In despair, the father dug a grave with his own hands for his daughter, saying that if she were to leave this world one day, he hoped she could adapt to death sooner. Zhang Liyong stayed with his daughter, sleeping and playing in that earthen grave. After the video spread online, it touched the hearts of people across the internet. Thanks to the power of the internet, Chinese crowdfunding platforms stepped in to help the family, raising the full amount of treatment costs in less than a month. Even more heartening, following the doctor’s advice, the couple had another daughter, and the younger sister successfully saved her older sister using her own cord blood. Later, a compassionate entrepreneur also covered all the recovery expenses for the older sister. After his eldest daughter was discharged from the hospital, Zhang Liyong filled the grave back with soil and scattered sunflower seeds over it. Love can traverse the deepest despair, blooming with hope even in the most barren soil!

Imagine being parents, bringing a child into this world, nurturing them, caring for them, making them the very purpose of their existence. Then one day, you learn your child has a rare disease called Thalassemia and will need blood transfusions for life. You aren’t rich, so you depend on a govt hospital for those transfusions. Every session, you take your child dutifully, with discipline, because that’s what love and responsibility mean. Life revolves around them, their smile, their survival. And then, one day, govt employees at that very blood transfusion centre decides not to do the most basic part of their job, screening the blood to be transfused for HIV. Your child receives HIV-positive blood. Now, your child is HIV positive. So are four more Thalassemia kids who were allegedly transfused at the same centre. One act of sheer negligence. One careless, heartless lapse, and five innocent families are shattered. Everything you built, every ounce of love, every sacrifice, destroyed because one person couldn’t be bothered to do the duty they were paid for. This happened at Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa, Jharkhand. Five children. All HIV positive now. The CM has announced ₹2 lakh compensation. Value of life. Lol.

Long before Europe had its first atheists, ancient India had the Charvakas — bold thinkers who doubted everything. Emerging around 600 BCE, the Charvaka (Lokayata) school was India’s earliest materialist and rationalist philosophy. Attributed to Brihaspati, they rejected the Vedas, karma, rebirth, and any afterlife, insisting that only direct perception (pratyaksha) is a valid source of truth. They believed the body and consciousness end together — no soul survives death. Their saying captured their worldview: “As long as you live, live happily; even borrow to drink ghee.” Pleasure wasn’t sin — it was the only certainty in an uncertain world. Their original Bārhaspatya Sūtras are lost, but echoes survive in critics’ works like Madhavacharya’s Sarva-darśana-saṅgraha (14th century) and Jayanta Bhatta’s Nyāya Manjarī. Charvakas existed centuries before Epicurus (341 BCE) or Democritus (460 BCE), making them pioneers of empirical, secular reasoning. Erased by orthodoxy yet impossible to silence, they remain a reminder that skepticism wasn’t imported into India — it was born here. (Via ChatGPT + random research)

I don't know how many of you have noticed this, but these days, no one talks about academic achievers. All you see in the news and media is hype around the 'Vadapav girl,' 'Dolly Chaiwala,' 'Kulhad Pizza girl,' some YouTuber, Bigg Boss contestants, and so on. If you treat them as celebrities, every kid will aspire to be like them because they see what is being recognized and celebrated as important. The previous generation saw IIT AIR 1 holders & boards toppers being celebrated. Nowadays, you hardly see anyone talking about the achievements of scientists, astronauts, or doctors. Naturally, kids will aspire to become what they see being acknowledged and glorified.

Long ago the lament was why can’t qualified Engineers & Doctors get into Politics and cleanse the system. The whole AAP movement was supposed to be the answer to this. It took 10 years for that answer to become a question again. You can’t change politics, the Politics will change you.

Many years ago..I had just graduated, used to drive my own alto car to work, Hyderabad Nagarjuna circle bridge collapsed..I missed that by perhaps few minutes, thought I would have been just counted as one number. Another statistic of life..this image is such a gruesome reminder of how little we care for life. So disturbed by this image..he was just doing his job and sky fell apart for his family forever. No one will be held accountable as ever..

This is perhaps the most 'cinematic' ad I have seen in this category. No spoilers - watch the ad first, and then read 👇 There is good reason why this ad is 'cinematic' - it is directed by a well-known Tamil film director, A.L. Vijay, who himself is an alumnus of VELS University, with popular films like Madrasapattinam, Deiva Thirumagal, and Thalaivaa, among others. The ad's narrative is unusual for pitching a college/university. It banks on the extraordinary possibility of so many ex-students from the same college being in the vicinity of the accident and extrapolates their education as being useful during a situation like the one depicted. Some of the creative choices seem funny (than being serious), like that MBA guy managing the crowd, which I believe is supposed to showcase his 'people management' skills, if I got the reference right. And yes, B. Tech - IT guy hacking the victim's phone to make a call and the Mechanical Engineer starting the engine to open the lock, and the lawyer asking the biker (who caused the accident) to stop running away from the scene... every one of them seem stretched to maximum cinematic effect. The doctor is probably the most appropriate and useful character; everyone else is largely redundant and any passerby, regardless of their educational background, calling the cops/ambulance and ensuring that the victim is attended to is adequate. But, amidst colleges advertising salaries, placements, and companies that have hired from them (which VELS would be doing too, in other campaigns), to see one advertising the social consciousness of their alumni is definitely unusual, and welcome. There is an accomplished film director's flourish and ambition in the overall idea that wants to showcase the assortment of courses available at the university, despite the cinematic liberties (understandably) taken! #advertising #marketing #creative #creativity
