repost from KTLA's @LuParker: 14 years ago, I interviewed an up & coming hip-hop artist named Kendrick Lamar. We met in Compton at his studio and talked music, family, gangs, and his passion for writing & performing. He was intelligent & gracious. Kendrick's album Good Kid, M.A.D.D City was released months later. The footage in our story was literally Kendrick free-styling on the mic for us.
His story is one of my favorites of my entire career. The then 23-year-old was just about to blow up into the megastar he is today with 20 Grammys under his belt and performing at this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
I've watched this story dozens of times over the years and nearly cry each time I see it because of the insight, bravery, and courage Kendrick brings to his poetic lyrics and vibe. I often think of all the young kids with talent who don't make it out of tough times & neighborhoods. We have to keep nurturing our youth… 🤍
Proud of you @kendricklamar 🎤

WHO DEY NATION, I NEED YOUR HELP! 🧡🐅
If you don’t know me, I’m a 3rd grade teacher in Miami, and my students have been on an incredible journey this football season! Each of them drafted an NFL team at the start of the year and has been tracking their team’s season—learning geography, stats, history, and more. They even wrote letters to their teams, and so many have received incredible love in return.
But Zoey, who drafted the Bengals, is the only one who hasn’t heard from her team yet. (& that’s okay—teams don’t have to do anything!) She has been following the Bengals all season long, and I just want her to feel the love from Who Dey Nation!
If you’re a Bengals fan and want to help make her day, please DM me or reply to this post with a quick video saying:
➡️ “Hey Zoey, Who Dey!” (Or something fun!?!?!) she loves Joe Burrow 🥺
➡️ A message about what makes the Bengals organization so special!
This sweet girl has never once asked me if I’ve heard from her team. She’s been patiently waiting for her moment—celebrating all of her friends along the way. Let’s give Zoey HER moment! 🧡🏈

How cool is this?! ☺️
Years after taking a selfie with Simone Biles and Aly Raisman as a young fan, Joscelyn Roberson took a photo with them again, this time as an alternate on the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team. #USAGTrials24

I truly did not think the ring would go missing, still not sure how the New Heights team could have been so careless as to let this happen. I fully blame Jets Jake, he is the last person who saw it. I know from watching countless Law and Orders that means a whole lot.

Joe Burrow, via the Bengals, on joining the Kelce brothers on stage tonight at UC:
"There's not a ton of purely football podcasts out there. I never mind talking ball and those guys are Ohio guys and they're good dudes. I'm always down to talk ball." – at Cincinnati, OH
