What joy to log on to twitter and not find brain numbing amounts of COVID-related crap, just brain numbing amounts of old school twitter crap!

FYI: simple benchmark (330k rows, 65k groups, 6 cols) using latest CRAN binaries of {collapse}, {dplyr} & {data.table}. Results: (1) {collapse} is also competitive to {data.table} with base R functions. (2) {dplyr} code can run <= 100x faster using {collapse}. #RStats #tidyverse

Yes, COVID is on par with Flu in terms of risk to kids, but more to the point, the amount of restrictions we placed on children is in no way whatsoever commensurate with their risk of COVID. We restructured their entire lives, and deprived them of a year of education. Horrible

THIS IS THE KEY POINT: BA.2 > BA.1 > DELTA. I AM SO UPSET I CAN'T STOP YELLING.
Replying to @LyngseF
To set the stage, here is the 14-day SAR for different Variant of Concerns (VOC). “New” #Omicron BA.2 (red): 42% “Original” #Omicron BA.1 (blue): 35% #Delta VOC (purple): 33% Unknown VOC (no WGS results on sample) (gray): 33% 3/

The work was completed while I was in Italy getting a nice SARS-CoV-2 infections while skiing. Poetic justice after leaving my coauthors with the work, I guess😎
New Preprint Out! “Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron VOC subvariants BA.1 and BA.2: Evidence from Danish Households” We investigate the secondary attack rate (SAR) in #Omicron BA.1 vs. BA.2 households in Demark, 20 December 2021 – 18 January 2022. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/… 1/

Preprint up. How sensitive are excess death estimates to choice of baseline model? Different models see the same pattern, but on different levels. Country rankings sensitive to model choice. Some approaches systematically biased. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/… @CPop_SDU

If I had a dollar for every time I have called out the Charlson in peer review...
The Charlson Comorbidity Index is based on a single study of 559 patients at one NYC hospital in 1987. That’s why HIV is six times worse than diabetes. Two questions: 1) why do scientists not check their sources? 2) why are we still using this?

Making people responsible for shit they did during COVID...
Remember this problematic study from February? After questions were raised about the paper, it was pulled by the Lancet and disappeared off the preprint server it was on This week IT WAS PUBLISHED 👀👀 1/n

This new article in economic inquiry coauthored by @nickchk is absolutely terrifying. Seven competent people were given two causal studies to replicate from scratch. No two people even report the same sample size and the standard deviation across estimates was 4x SE of original!

Just a reminder fairness and transparency around who gets the vaccine first is critical. I know quite a number of people who shouldn't be first in line but who *will* pull all kinds of strings to get the vaccine now. My advise: Enroll in a vaccine trial!
There is an enormous demonstration going on at @Stanford Hospital right now carried out by staff, who are protesting the decision by higher ups to give vaccines to some administrators and physicians who are at home and not in contact with patients INSTEAD of frontline workers.
