BANTAG ELUDES ARREST IN IFUGAO POULTRY FARM RAID?
Former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director Gerald Bantag reportedly escaped arrest after police failed to find him during a raid on a poultry farm in Lamut, Ifugao, at dawn on Sunday, Mayor Mariano Buyagawan Jr. said.
In a social media post, Buyagawan said Lamut police acted on intelligence that Bantag was hiding at a poultry farm in Sitio Alupapan, Barangay Pugol, where he was allegedly posing as a poultry worker.
“Si General [Gerald Bantag]. Nagpapanggap na poultry boy. Pugol. 5 a.m.” Buyagawan quoted the reported intelligence information received by the Lamut Municipal Police Station.
Police launched a surprise operation at around 5 AM on November 1, but Bantag was no longer at the property when the team arrived.
Bantag is wanted in connection with the killings of broadcaster Percy Lapid, whose real name was Percival Mabasa, and alleged middleman Jun Villamor in 2022. Lapid was shot dead near his home in Las Piñas City on October 3, 2022, while Villamor was found dead inside the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa on October 18 that year.
Investigators linked the two killings, with Villamor allegedly identified as the middleman who relayed the order to kill Lapid. Bantag, who was BuCor director at the time, and late former deputy director Ricardo Zulueta were accused of masterminding the killings. Bantag has denied the allegations. (Photo/Mariano B. Going from an administrative assistant under Usec. Clare Amador in the Abad-era DBM straight to a "budget expert" is an amazing leap.
Budget expertise requires hands-on experience in fiscal policy drafting, line-item allocation, macro-forecasting, and bicameral negotiations, not just admin work.
Since she has been calling everyone who questions her “trolls” and refuses to answer simple requests for evidence regarding her claims of “nefarious" insertions/amendmenrs in the 2027 budget, the least she can do is explain how zero actual policy experience inside DBM magically turned into instant budget expertise and authority outside DBM.
