I'll be sharing our new VEMPIC fluid simulator at SIGGRAPH 2022! Learn how the Virtual Element Method, Cut-Cell Meshes, and Particle-in-Cell fluid simulation naturally complement one another!

I blogged about our work upgrading Airtable's MySQL infrastructure from 5.6 to 8.0. This project was truly a saga, and I'm proud of what we accomplished: medium.com/airtable-eng/migr…
To make the upgrade successful, we built major new pieces of MySQL infrastructure: an improved failover process, record/replay testing, a downgrade capability, and lots of additional observability and instrumentation.
Of course, this is only the beginning! We're working on more projects to improve the scalability and reliability of our database infrastructure. If you're interested, the Storage team is hiring: boards.greenhouse.io/airtabl… (SWE) boards.greenhouse.io/airtabl… (DRE)
What comes after a strawman solution? Woodman? Ironman? Can we define a solution strength continuum?
Very cool that our 1M LOC TS migration at @airtable inspired an even larger 3.5M LOC TS migration at @stripe! Congrats to the team at Stripe for pulling this off.
Replying to @alunny
We were heavily inspired by @calebmer and @umbrant's migration at Airtable medium.com/airtable-eng/the-…
We used their codemod as the basis for the migration.
Has anyone measured the availability of us-east-1 vs. other AWS regions? I have a hypothesis that it's significant (like 99.9% vs. 99.99% uptime), making *not* being based in us-east-1 a competitive advantage for startups.

Excited and honored to be speaking at Have You Tried Rubbing a Database on It? I'll talk about why @airtable is easy to learn and hard to outgrow. Tickets here: hytradboi.com @hytradboi
Kudos to @monitorio for a simple product that just works. I needed failure notifications for some cronjobs running on my rPi, and with Cronitor, I was up and running in 15 minutes. Love it!
We like to ship. Incredible work by the Interface Designer team @airtable!
📢 Today we're thrilled to announce Interface Designer: Our new offering to create complete and customized applications with Airtable.
Get the details here 👉 blog.airtable.com/introducin… and watch this space for more info and resources to come!
This thread is exactly the value proposition of @airtable. You want a low-code application platform, not a spreadsheet.
“$SAAS could be replaced with a spreadsheet” is something I have seen a few times. I think it misunderstands how users use software, how businesses run processes, and how SaaS products are built.
What's the right way of handling timestamps for client-side events? Right now we only use server-side timestamps since client clocks are famously bad, but it means we lose the ordering of some events in the system.
I gave a talk at @anyscalecompute about a topic near and dear to my heart: software testing, and how a good test suite is a developer's best friend. Thanks @oldcap for hosting me!
