There is something seriously wrong at the BBC.
This is the headline they used for a Muslim peace activist who was murdered by an Islamist group for preaching against radicalism.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka was a prominent moderate Sufi preacher in Nigeria known for advocating interfaith dialogue and opposing violent extremism. Ansaru claimed responsibility, citing his peace efforts as the motive.

imagine if someone suggested cramming all these people onto the pavements to make space for motor traffic down the middle
Utterly convinced the "I love winter and the clocks going back. Give me cosy nights under warm blankets with a pumpkin spice hot chocolate with rain lashing the windows and a £700 gas bill" people are just people who don't leave the house and they like feeling less bad about it.
It's the same pretty much everywhere with rent controls. A story from Berlin:
True in Spain too. Every landlord in Madrid and Barcelona screens the renters now. This is an obvious consequence of rent control. The most vulnerable, ostensible protected by the legislation, are in fact excluded from the rental market: if you cannot be evicted for non payment, then you are too risky a renter.

Unpopular opinion, maybe, but I have a real problem with the "turn down the temperature" on political debate line being taken.
Obviously we should generally be kind and respectful and treat each other as human beings, but my two major issues are these:
First, the guy who attacked Haines appears to be a genuinely mentally ill lunatic and to the extent he may have latched on to heated political rhetoric, it was almost certainly downstream of being mentally ill. You simply cannot have a functioning democracy if debate is hamstrung because someone somewhere might have a psychotic break and decide a normal throwaway line like "we're coming for Albo" means violence and not voting him out.
Second, people who say this mean YOU should turn down the temperature, not them. YOU should turn down the temperature if you're worried about immigration or upset about tax changes or skeptical about this digital duty of care stuff. They absolutely will not turn down the temperature on calling you a racist for opposing the Voice or a misogynist because you think we shouldn't treat young men like defective women or whatever else they think is out of bounds.

As I revealed on @news24 Outsiders, the Melbourne Islamic centre linked to the Omani hijacker received annual taxpayer-funded grants in the hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent years. Here are just two financial statements below showing govt grants as high as $834,211.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s insane that we allow two stroke engine leaf blowers to operate in residential areas? Why do so many otherwise sensible people not recognize the extreme externality of that noise? On some of the most beautiful days of the year it’s practically impossible to be outside without exposure to 75-80db of droning noise.

And there you have it.
The 16 year old who hit a woman in a stolen car over the weekend was out on bail with a criminal history that includes aggregated burglary, car theft and home invasion.
He was released shortly after his arrest on Sunday and didn’t show up to his court appointment yesterday.
How is this acceptable? After all these years and all these cases.
Daily news. Good samaritans killed. Time and time again.
Did he need to run over a dozen marathon runners to be held on remand?
Meanwhile, victims like my parents whose home was invaded early last year can’t even get their claims processed - well over a year later, we’re still footing the bill for the property damage.
Our priorities are completely backwards - all the sympathy and excuses in the world for criminals, and absolute contempt for the law abiding citizens paying for it.

It’s no surprise to learn that the Omani pilot who tried to crash a plane full of people into Tel Aviv was radicalised in Australia.
UAE prosecutors say his drift into extremist ideology began in 2017 while studying in Melbourne - through extremist literature, online content, mosque visits, and contacts linked to a local Islamic centre.
Australia has long enabled this through poorly managed migration, weak assimilation expectations, and soft laws and enforcement efforts that let radical networks recruit both locals and arrivals.
Evidence includes the fact that at its peak, Australia produced more foreign ISIS fighters per capita than almost any other country (including many majority-Muslim ones).
And the same hate-preacher network linked to the Bondi Beach shooters is still operating today - the very people whom we know radicalised them are still walking free.

Waiting at gate at Tel Aviv airport to go back to US, checked my email. A reader of my Substack wrote this below. It's terrifying to me, but we have to know this is real, so we can fight it. I'm a 59-year-old Gen Xer; v. few people my age & older have any idea this is going on.

Some context: the menu at the restaurant Mamdani visited yesterday features a map of Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, from which all Israeli Hebrew cities have been completely erased. Tel Aviv and Eilat, for example, are nowhere to be found. Only Arabic city names are mentioned.
Btw, this is what “from the river to the sea” looks like.
