Avreet, VP Public and University Affairs of the UofT Students' Union, advocates for fare capping! Too many students choose between reloading their presto card and spending on necessities like groceries.

“…more than 10,300 students living in university housing this year across University of Toronto’s three campuses…” - sounds impressive until you realize that U of T has 97,000+ students enrolled at those 3 campuses.
“We can only house 10.5% of our students” - is a more realistic reflection of the headline.
U of T is investing in new #StudentHousing in Toronto, but needs to target on-campus housing for 50%+ of their student body over the next decade.

Excited to see student groups like @CASAACAE sign this letter along with admin groups like @U15ca .
It’s an important reminder that administration advocacy is strongest when aligned with student needs.
The Coalition for Canadian Research today issued a public letter to the @CanadianPM.
With international competition mounting, Canada must invest in research. We need ambition to ensure Canada’s future success and prosperity.

In the meantime, we’ll be pushing the Federal Government to fund climate initiatives on and off-campus, the Provincial government to tackle the housing crisis without destroying our environment, and the Municipal government to back us up as we push for better at @UofT

But we can’t wait until 2026 to see real action.
Last week, I was hard at work at @CASAACAE ‘s PoliStrat conference ensuring that the climate crisis remains on their agenda as they advocate for student needs throughout the year.

From investing in cleantech and building retrofits, to partnering with post-secondary institutions to drive groundbreaking research and supporting cities in their mission to provide affordable and reliable public transit, there was a lot from this announcement that excites us.

Special thank you to @cathmckenna and @marymargaretbey for their comments on the urgency of the climate crisis at @beynate ‘s announcement.
They’re right, we’re out of time and running out of options.
The time to act is now, and students have a key role to play in that action.
It's not every day we have a politician visit campus!
There's a leadership race underway in the @OntLiberal Party, and today candidate @beynate made a stop at the Donnelly Centre and UofT's Oueen's Park lawn to announce his plan to make Ontario a climate leader.
