A hacker stole data from the Pentagon, Europol and 40+ companies, built one of the dark web’s biggest stolen data marketplaces, and was eventually caught after accepting a $250 payment in Bitcoin.
> Kai West, better known online as IntelBroker, was accused of running a major stolen-data marketplace on the dark web.
> His alleged victims included Apple, AMD, Cisco, Nokia, General Electric and Europol.
> The operation was also linked to claims involving sensitive US government data, including information about members of Congress.
> For years, IntelBroker operated under a pseudonym, selling stolen data while trying to keep his real identity hidden.
> He reportedly preferred Monero, a cryptocurrency designed to make transactions harder to trace.
> Then came a $250 deal.
> In January 2023, an FBI agent allegedly persuaded him to accept Bitcoin for a purchase of stolen data.
> That payment became a crucial lead in the investigation.
> Investigators spent years connecting online accounts, cryptocurrency activity and other digital evidence to identify the person behind the alias.
> In January 2025, IntelBroker announced he was stepping away from the forum he had been running.
> Three weeks later, French authorities arrested him.
> The case involved allegations of MILLIONS of dollars in damage and attacks affecting dozens of organizations.
> He allegedly spent years hiding behind an online identity, only for one transaction to help investigators close in on him.
The hacker who relied on crypto to hide his tracks may have made one of his biggest mistakes by accepting a different coin.

Anyone saying ‘vulnpocalypse’ should be approached with caution.
⚠️
One potential outcome of the vulnpocalypse is that companies decide the cost (in risk, dollars, and engineering hours) of OSS dependencies is too high. Vulnerability management isn’t cheap or glamorous, and it’s unlikely that you need all of the attack surface you inherit with these packages. All of the small packages from the many transitive dependencies you inherit present supply chain risk that likely outweighs whatever value you’re getting from that few hundred lines of code.
The cost of the tokens to rewrite the fraction of that code you need, and maintaining it as 1p code, will eventually be lower than the continued cost of dependency management.
This will improve security, but would have negative consequences for the OSS ecosystem.

I lost all fear of dying after my Dad died. At first I thought it was a strange depression or sadness. A bitterness at the world.
Over time I thought it was just the accepting of the inevitable. Why fear what you can’t stop?
Then, after a few years, I thought I was brave because he was inspiring to me. I’m not afraid of anything anymore. Since the day he died I haven’t felt fear.
But now I know it’s just because I want to see him again.
My father's teachings and sacrifices shaped my philosophy on life. I honored him in everything I did.
To my father: Rest In Peace.
I have your name and your heart.
We fight till the end.

"When we completed our first operations, we demonstrated the triviality of modern enterprise defense systems. To TeamPCP, we send our sincere gratitude: your sacrifice provided us with the exact coverage we needed. We owe you all our gratitude for falling and taking on the acts of our cooperation. Retirement was only a temporary diversion born of pure boredom. Yet, driven by our enduring passion for the craft, we return not out of necessity, but to reclaim our dominance and for the love of the game. Our primary goal today is explicit: to openly challenge the FBI and the federal apparatus, proving once and for all that we operate completely above the law on this network. Corporate violations, corporate extortion and the generation of countless millions of dollars will continue unhindered, without any risk to ourselves, completely free. Prepare your incident response units and alert your federal managers. The clock is active."

Yesterday, August 26, 2026,
While I was at our physical Cybersecurity/EthicalHacking, @o_rangecybersec study centre to wa ni 23 Taiwo Akinsanya, Oshodi/Isolo, Lagos, 🇳🇬, I got a shocking message from one of the #international organisations I work with as an external cybersecurity researcher
The message was really shocking to me because I have earlier thought bi elo kan yoo jabọ ni 🥲😂
I’m ngl, except for the recognition, encouragement, warm welcome, nice meal (food and drinks), and good hospitality extended to us by the @PoliceNG during the award ceremony of IYD2026 in Abuja ni last week, and of course meeting amazing people , both among the police officers, leaders in the country and other people like #CyberChef, #Oyinda, #Daniella , and all my fellow awardees, this event doesn’t yo owo o 😂
I’m simply mentioning this, so my amazing …… who have assumed otherwise will understand that this is just like a VDP😂
Anyway, the shocking message I received from this international organisation reminded me of the importance of #Compliance
Unarguably, and just like I have told some of the participants of yesterday’s cybersecurity class, there’s no justification for this my #wrongdoing (mistake), and since yesterday, I have, of course, taken full responsibility for my actions and apologized to the affected team
And I genuinely appreciate the amazing team for their reconsideration 🙏
And this Thursday morning, of August 27, 2026
I’m sharing this message because of our students , both BBH students and other regular (full) students to always ensure that they respect anything labelled nì #policy 🗣️
Lesson learnt! I failed 🤦♂️
Yesterday, I honestly wanted to cry bì ẹni to kowo si #ponzischeme to wa crash 😂
Good morning! #Remember to #BeCyberSmart

🌍 If cybercrime were a country, it would rank as the world’s 3rd-largest economy.
Using 2026 IMF nominal GDP projections alongside Cybersecurity Ventures’ estimated annual cybercrime cost:
🇺🇸 United States — $32.4 trillion
🇨🇳 China — $20.9 trillion
🏴 Cybercrime — $10.8 trillion
That means the estimated economic impact of cybercrime is larger than the GDP of countries such as Germany, India, and Japan.
Of course, this is not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison: GDP measures economic output, while the cybercrime figure represents estimated annual losses and economic damage. But the comparison still illustrates the extraordinary scale of the problem.
As digital dependence grows, cybercrime is no longer just a security issue. It is an economic issue, a national-security issue, and increasingly a systemic risk.
