I dug into all the ways that AI bots crawl sites & can be blocked. And I built a tool so you can test your own site! You can find links to two guides (one on crawlers, one on hosts and CDNs), a spreadsheet reference of everything, and the checker here: vanessafox.com/tools/
@lilyraynyc @glenngabe & everyone else - would love any feedback (especially if I got anything wrong!)
Is Mitch McConnell's mcconnell.senate.gov/ blocking search engines on purpose or accidentally because they don't realize that their robots.txt allow line of /public only applies to gsa-crawler as written (no other senate.gov sub does this)? @digiphile - thoughts?

Hello all! Looking for a couple of recommendations: a local SEO agency and a freelance writer/editor. Any suggestions?
Why does TikTok now auto suggest “smallest woman” when you search for “the smallest man who ever lived”? I dug in a bit: vanessafox.com/did-the-us-ti…
We've already lost Twitter (re: find me on Bluesky). I wrote about losing TikTok: whilewemay.com/posts/what-we… (re: find me on Red Note?)

No part of this Google generative AI result is correct. Google, you are making it difficult for me to do deep dive analysis on the Tortured Poets Department!
I know I'm not the first one to say this, but has Google's favoring of Reddit in rankings ruined Reddit? The year old Reddit thread that ranks for "best hot tubs" has a 1 day old post linking to an affiliate site. I know, no one is shocked. Sigh.
New Shopify question! When facet values change, how can the original URLs be redirected? Ex: (collections/cat?facet=value becomes collections/cat?facet=valuenew) It seems you can't redirect Shopify URLs that begin with the path /collections? help.shopify.com/en/manual/o…
@GregBernhardt4 - Is there a way to do this? (Use case - revised taxonomy leads to renaming of facet values.) Thanks for any insight!
Hi all. I've got two tickets to see @fatherjohnmisty in Missoula this Saturday night that I can't use. Free to whoever can use them! (Obviously @hankgreen has dibs if he wants them!)
I'm not sure if anyone is here anymore, but does anyone have experience with redirecting URLs that contain spaces in Shopify? If so, how? Also, hello.
