Privacy shouldn't mean stolen funds get a free pass. But the fix isn't making every transaction public so investigators can follow the money, that’s surveillance by another name. Here's what "accountable privacy" actually requires, per @HeliusPrivacy docs, and it's a ring policy, not a setting: • Read-only auditor visibility: an auditor can view what policy allows, but cannot sign, spend, or move funds • Freeze/thaw: hold a balance while a theft is investigated • Blocked recipients: screen against restricted parties before settlement • Deposit auditing: only accept deposits whose recipient the auditor can identify The catch is the whole point. All of that lives in a Custom Ring. The permissionless default ring has no auditor visibility by design. An anonymous ring with no auditor isn't a privacy feature. It's a clean exit for stolen funds. That's the question we kept hitting while building Vanta: how do you protect users without turning privacy into an unaccountable exit route? Today Vanta runs on the default ring on devnet, and every send renders a receipt naming exactly what it still leaks. Accountability starts with admitting the leaks, not claiming you can surveil. Privacy with accountability. That's the architecture.
