🇷🇸 Serbia’s students marched across the country to Belgrade for one last push before Sunday’s election
Crowds greeted them last night with fireworks, flags and a red carpet, ahead of their final rally today.
It started in November 2024, when a station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad and killed 16 people, and nearly 2 years of protests later it’s a full movement against corruption and Serbia’s longtime leader, Aleksandar Vucic.
Now the students are on the ballot, and some polls say they could take a real bite out of Vucic’s party, in power since 2012. Vucic even quit as president last month to run for prime minister.
They’ve filled the streets for nearly 2 years, and Sunday will show whether they can fill the ballot boxes too.

#Serbia has 6,450,523 registered voters, but only 6.55 million residents. Its latest population estimates count more than 1.14 million minors: that leaves 5.41 million adult residents, over one million fewer than voters on the rolls.
The two figures do not cover exactly the same people, as eligible citizens abroad can also be registered. Still, the authorities must explain the gap with transparent data and independent scrutiny.
The EDP stands for elections that Serbia’s citizens can trust.
