most editors stay stuck charging $150-500 a video
there’s so much money out there
those prices would be laughed at in any other space

My advice to every single video editor is to take Agentic editing very seriously and to STOP COPING.
You need to be honest with yourself about the impact to freelance editors and remember this is the worst this technology will ever be…
And the most expensive.
Team YouTube is building a FREE agentic editor that is native to the YouTube Create App…
You need to take this seriously…
And it’s not that human editing is over but it’s going to be for BIG YOUTUBERS in terms of hiring going forward.
And for companies.
NOT the Middle Class or Working Class Creator, whom money and time are both more scarce for.
Especially in this economy…
Thumbnail Artists are feeling this already, VTuber models are next and that might be fully open sourced by some upcoming projects.
For MOST creators under 1M subscribers, video editing over the next 5 years will largely go to near $0…
And even if it’s not that severe, no video editor loses by acting on that assumption and hardening their business…
Pursue clients with higher budgets NOW. Because anyone that is mid tier or early stage creator is not going to keep paying for videos they are barely profitable on after covering an editor…
my actual editing deep work ritual:
before:
- pick the one task for the session
- decide what success looks like
- close all tabs
- phone away where I can’t see it
- clear desk
- fill water bottles
- bathroom if needed
- open only what the task needs
- set a 90m timer
- start the tracker
after:
- how long was it?
- what was the output?
- any distractions?
- how can the next one be better?
dear editors, clients can tell when you use AI to message them
especially if you’re explaining why a video is late, at least have the respect to reword the sentence so it doesn’t sound like AI lmao
the vicious cycle of pricing mindset:
1. you don’t believe people can pay higher prices
2. so you don’t pitch higher prices
3. so nobody says yes to those prices
4. you now believe nobody wants to pay higher prices
5. and the cycle repeats
if you believe people won’t pay more, you subconsciously block yourself from even trying
for editors struggling with perfectionism:
i’m sorry, but the feeling will never go away
you will always feel like there’s more to do. but be grateful. because most editors don’t get that feeling. and that’s why their work looks shit.
embrace it
