The response to our notice of the launch of the book ‘Charles Haughey: Glory, Greed and Guns’ far exceeds the available space in the Royal Irish Academy (RIA). So we have to resort to a first come, first serve arrangement on next Wednesday. Apologies.

Like the vast majority of us, Ivan Yeats is of minor significance. We should get on with dealing with what matters, such as the widening inequality in our society of which housing is a related major issue.
Ed Maloney, perhaps the most brilliant Irish journalists of the last 50 years, has died in New York.
Simon Harris in ordering FG councillors not to vote to allow other presidential contenders a nomination, was depriving people of a wider choice for the presidency.
Fianna Fáil TDs would need to be even madder than they are already to vote for Jim Gavin, not knowing what he stands for.
There is something bizarre that Fianna Fáil TDs etc are being asked to vote for Jim Gavin as the party’s nominee for the presidency, without knowing nothing on what he stands for. They do know what Billy Kelleher stands for, so why not go with him?
Joe McAnthony was an outstanding investigative journalist. His investigation of the Hospitals Sweepstakes was brilliant. The Sunday Independent editor at the time, Conor O’Brien, anticipated a backlash and published the full 10,000 word script on just one Sunday. That backlash included a massive threats from Tony O’Reilly, who in the prearranged presence of O’Brien’s wife, said if he ever replicated that, he, O’Reilly, would ensure he would never get work as an editor or journalist in Dublin again.
The prospect of Mairead McGuinness becoming President is appalling. She voted against a motion in the European Parliament to provide further resources to save lives in the Mediterranean. She then gave a false explanation for doing so. She has to be stopped.
