YC is completely useless if you don't already have a cofounder
i did this accelerator in sf.
it is completely different from other accelerators because you can come without an idea and without a cofounder.
for me it radically changed my life as an entrepreneur. i had the idea, an MVP, but no technical skills, no cofounder, i was a lawyer before. so i:
- met my cofounder xtelegram
- went to sf for the first time, all paid
- met friends, incredible founders, incredible advisors
- 1000X my ambition
special thanks to @juliadenoly @GittardAurelien @vio_bme @antoineduchein @Alicebentinck (Isa and Mike idk your @)

Luana Lopes Lara co-founded Kalshi, arguably the most controversial startup in America right now.
The company is fighting legal battles across 19 states, has faced cease-and-desist orders in at least 11, and has even been hit with criminal wagering charges.
And yet, in eleven months, Kalshi went from a $2B valuation to $22B.
In August, Kalshi traded roughly 5x Polymarket’s volume, commanding more than 80% of the combined market.
With a marketing team of just 15 people, it outdid(!!) Nike at the World Cup and turned @RealChalamet into the face of the tournament’s #1-performing ad.
Building a company like Kalshi requires an extreme tolerance for pain and a degree of conviction that can look like delusion.
Or, as @mansourtarek_ puts it: you need to have the dawg in you.
@luanalopeslara has it.
No sane founder spends two years fighting for a company’s right to exist, only to turn around and sue the regulator that finally granted it.
Without Luana pushing Kalshi through that fight, it might have remained a licensed experiment without the capital, liquidity, or market power to pursue its real ambition: becoming the exchange where anything about the future can be traded.
I spent months researching Luana alongside @Anastasia_ELW, an early-stage investor building @jointhebridge: speaking with people who worked with and backed her, poring over every recorded interview and written account I could find, and tracing the CFTC’s paper trail.
Ana and I wanted to understand how Luana keeps pulling off things that look impossible from the outside.
Where did her appetite for impossible bets come from? Why does she keep choosing the steeper mountain? And why have the people around her learned not to bet against her?
This is the person behind one of America’s most audacious companies.
SideDoors presents Luana Lopes Lara: the founder behind Kalshi’s most impossible bets.

Hagen and Mateo started with €300 of lunch money.
They turned that into a software licensing business doing over €1.5M in revenue.
They were still in high school, in Eschborn, Germany. Population 21,000.
In March, they told me the story of that first company.
A few weeks later they were on a plane to San Francisco to join The Bridge.
Today it's a pleasure and an honor to watch them build Avior and dream BIG.

Hagen and Mateo left Frankfurt for San Francisco
Leaving behind a business they had grown from €300 to €1.5M in revenue while still in high school
They joined The Bridge to take a shot at building a generational company.
Their film drops today at 5pm CEST

The Bridge wasn’t where Hagen Krall and Mateo Herbig's story started,
but it was the starting block for what they’re building now.
Starting Blocks is a new series by @jointhebridge
It follows the very early days of exceptional founders who moved to San Francisco to build the most ambitious company of their lives.
We’re starting with Hagen and Matteo.
Their film comes out tomorrow, 20 August, at 5pm CEST.
Be there.

storyteller is exploding as a job category in SF
bc the new generation of founders is defined by the story they tell while building.
so the post-AI era shifts everything toward acquisition science and art.
I know a top-tier VC/incubator in San Francisco hiring its storyteller
reply below and I’ll send the details
The hot new job at tech companies is leading "storytelling."
The term doubled on LinkedIn job posts in the U.S since last year. The WSJ writes:
"Compliance technology firm Vanta this month began hiring for a head of storytelling, offering a salary of up to $274,000."
"Productivity app Notion recently merged its communications, social media and influencer functions into one 10-person, so-called storytelling team."
"Financial technology brand Chime last month began hiring for a director of corporate editorial and storytelling—its first storyteller opening."
As a former reporter and career-long content/brand leader, I have some thoughts!
These examples point to a shift in internal marketing orgs that reflect a shrinking earned media landscape and an endless, growing number of distribution channels to share and own your narrative, i.e. "going direct."
It's not entirely editorial, or events, or PR, or marketing. It's how all these pieces work together and how they contribute to the bigger picture - your story!
I joke with my reporter friends that they are infinitely hireable if they ever left journalism. Why? Because we are trained to ask: "So what? Why should readers care? What does it mean for them?" To me, that's a big nuance in this conversation. Because...
*Storytelling is a human act and it's a service.*
Super interested to watch what happens here. Are you long/short on this role?
