🇺🇸 Insta360 Spatial Capture is officially coming to the U.S. on Sep. 28! Update the Insta360 app to the latest version (2.34.0) via your mobile app store or download it from our website, and experience Spatial Capture with Insta360 X4 Air, X5, and X6. Powered by 3D Gaussian Splatting, Spatial Capture lets you scan a room or object with a 360 video and turn it into a fully explorable 3D model—all directly in the Insta360 app. With high quality imaging and native 360 video recording, Insta360 cameras make 3D Gaussian Splatting scanning more accessible, so it's easier than ever to capture and preserve your memories in an immersive 3D format.

For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models. images.nvidia.com/pdf/Open-W…

it’s in gemini, just create it in ai studio. oh, that’s for your personal google one account. for workspace you need gemini business. no, not gemini advanced, that’s ai pro now. unless you need ai ultra. oh agents? you do that in spark actually. no, not gemini api managed agents, that’s different. for coding use jules. unless you mean the agentic ide, that’s antigravity. no, that’s the old antigravity, download the new one. actually gemini cli is being deprecated, use antigravity cli. no the flash model is smarter than the pro model. unless you need pro. if it’s video, use flow. no, flow uses veo. no, nano banana is images. actually that’s in gemini now. unless you’re in search, then it’s ai mode. no, research is notebooklm. anyway it’s all very simple.

Apple has made an expensive device that nobody asked for, using a new type of input that nobody asked for, it's too expensive, and there aren't any apps available. (Criticisms of the original Macintosh in 1984)

John Ternus, the new CEO of Apple, has been with the company for 25 years. His only non-Apple job was four years in the late 90s at Virtual Research, a tiny Virtual Reality HMD outfit. From what I can tell, he was the lead mechanical engineer on the V8 I obtained when I was 16!

Today, we released Lyra 2.0, a framework for generating persistent, explorable 3D worlds at scale, from NVIDIA Research. Generating large-scale, complex environments is difficult for AI models. Current models often “forget” what spaces look like and lose track of movement over time, causing objects to shift, blur, or appear inconsistent. This prevents them from creating the reliable 3D environments required for downstream simulations. Lyra 2.0 solves these issues by: ✅ Maintaining per-frame 3D geometry to retrieve past frames and establish spatial correspondences ✅ Using self-augmented training to correct its own temporal drifting. Lyra 2.0 turns an image into a 3D world you can walk through, look back, and drop a robot into for real-time rendering, simulation, and immersive applications. ➡️ Learn more: research.nvidia.com/labs/sil… 📄 Read the paper: arxiv.org/abs/2604.13036

I’m increasingly convinced that the willingness to change your mind is the ultimate sign of intelligence. The most impressive people I know change their minds often in response to new information. It’s like a software update. The goal isn't to be right. It's to find the truth.

It’s absolutely possible to believe VR has some serious problems to overcome and that it’s not going particularly well. And that it will go on to be one of the most impactful technologies of our time.
