Simply incredible!
One advantage of being of my vintage is having witnessed the dramatic transformation of our economy over the decades.
In 2023, I shared my sense of wonder at seeing India’s steel production surge ahead of Japan’s. For me, that alone was an almost unbelievable milestone.
And now, India is producing more steel than the US and Japan COMBINED!
I need a moment to catch my breath…
Somewhere in a parallel universe, my grandfather, J.C. Mahindra, who was appointed India’s first Iron & Steel Controller during the Second World War, must be celebrating.
My gratitude to Tata Steel, SAIL, JSW, & all the other companies and people who have driven this extraordinary transformation of one of our most fundamental industries.
What a journey. And what a foundation for the future!
I started my career in the Steel industry in the ‘80’s. (Mahindra Ugine Steel—alloy steel rather than mild steel, of course) At that time, the Japanese were like Gods in the Steel world. Untouchable in terms of scale or quality. It’s hard for me to express the sense of awe & gratification I feel to see this ranking. I’m glad I lived long enough to see this.

Rahul ji, you ask the Prime Minister to choose a venue for a debate. There is already one: Parliament, where you happen to be the LoP.
Just yesterday, Home Minister Shri @AmitShah offered a special session to debate SIR and EVMs. Why not show the same enthusiasm for a debate in Parliament that you show while issuing challenges on social media?
Demanding answers also carries an obligation to hear them.
There have been several occasions when you and your party have walked out of Parliament while the government was responding to your allegations. How do you claim to be so eager for a debate when you don’t even stay to hear the other side?
It doesn’t stop at walkouts. You and the INDI Alliance have repeatedly disrupted proceedings, leading to entire sittings being washed out. If you are so keen on debating, why not allow Parliament to function in the first place?
And then there’s the mock Parliament you recently held at the Congress President’s residence. Frankly, that was more a ‘mockery of Parliament’ than a ‘mock Parliament’. You found the time and enthusiasm for that exercise. Surely, the real Parliament deserves at least as much.
You speak endlessly about protecting democracy and the Constitution. But that respect should also reflect in how you treat the institutions they have established.
As for the issues you frivolously raise, bring specific allegations and evidence to back them up. Simply throwing together a long list of accusations doesn’t make your case any stronger. As LoP, you are expected to show some seriousness and responsibility.
You say, “Daro mat.”
Then bring the facts, face the scrutiny and stay to hear the answers. In the House, uphold the standards of debate you demand from others.
It’s been 24 hours since I challenged you, Modi ji.
You say the Opposition is anti-national. Choose any stage, any venue, and debate me on this - Who is anti-national? Who has connections with foreign forces? And what is the nature of those connections?
Let’s do this as soon as possible. Daro mat!
We’ll both be there. The media will be there. The youth of this country will be there. There will be a table. You’ll sit on one side, I’ll sit on the other. You can appoint whoever you want as the judge. You can even make Mohan Bhagwat ji the judge.
There will be questions about the financial system, the financial structure, how the US deal happened, why it happened and why so quickly, why you made the deal alone and didn’t inform the Cabinet, why the Adani case was closed, Epstein - and many other issues. We’ll discuss all of them openly.
Let the truth come out. Let everything be crystal clear.
You make allegations against me, don’t you? Come forward. Everything will become clear.
You’ve filed defamation cases against me over other matters. I think there are around 45 defamation cases against me.
But on this issue of the debate, on the question of foreign connections, you haven’t filed a defamation case. Go ahead, file one. We’ll discuss that openly too.
Happy Diwali, Modi ji.
