Just read the new blog by Antirez. I disagree with two things: 1) I don't think LLMs are anywhere close to stop reading the code, I think state of heavily vibecoded projects prove this. 2) "Why people that now protest against AI were not horrified by the state of software in the last decade?" This is whataboutism. And also, a lot of people were horrified, and now they are horrified even more. And I strongly agree with the last paragraph about junior devs. For now, I can't think of a better way to not completely ruin a future generation of software engineers without them learning how to program first. Overall, I think the message about controlling the ideas is right, but not quite in the way proposed.

I know that AI makes me more productive yet at the same time I have very little success in speeding up the thinking part. Example from the last two days is just to come up with ways to map some of the upstream provider functionality to Pi. It took me no time at all to slop something up that ended up with pulling all that complexity in. On the other hand providing an abstraction that works across all of them is still tricky and I feel like I'm about as fast as before, except for the parts where Pi helps me build POCs and probe APIs. At least for what we're doing right now the easy parts got even easier and the hard parts didn't move nearly as much. Except you can turn your brain off, and pretend the hard parts are easy parts then you're good to go. But then you have slop. Thank you for reading this rant.

Anthropic is the new late 90s evil Microsoft.
🚨ANTHROPIC CEO: OPEN SOURCE AI IS GETTING DANGEROUS Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei told lawmakers that open-source AI is moving down a “very dangerous path.” His warns that once powerful models are released openly, companies lose the ability to monitor misuse, revoke access, or update safety guardrails.

80 yıl boyunca her yıl 120 gün ve günde 24 saat 12.000 btu bir klimayı çalıştırırsanız ömrünüz boyunca doğaya yaptığınız co2 salınımı 100 ton olacaktır. bir süperyat haftada 109 ton bir özel jet yılda 810 ton co2 salınımı yapar. yani ömrünüz boyunca yazları terleyerek geçirirken bir milyardar sadece bir haftada sizin ömrünüz boyunca kaçındığınız zararı doğaya verebiliyor.

this happens in the horror industry about once every ten years or so and I can promise you they’re going to learn the absolute worst lessons from it.

recommended reading. i too am very done with people anthropomorphizing a bunch of matrices on a GPU cluster, especially if the same people do not give two fucks about actual human beings.

vibecoders are genuinely the most retarded cattle that exist. no, this is not satire.
I just created a sidebar Dock for MacOS, and it feels amazing to use. Every app has a vertical sidebar these days, why doesn't the OS itself have it?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This post is missing some important information: Apple allows you to locate the Dock along the left, bottom, or right edge of the screen. support.apple.com/guide/mac-help…

I strongly believe there are entire companies right now under heavy AI psychosis and its impossible to have rational conversations about it with them. I can't name any specific people because they include personal friends I deeply respect, but I worry about how this plays out. I lived through the great MTBF vs MTTR (mean-time-between-failure vs. mean-time-to-recovery) reckoning of infrastructure during the transition to cloud and cloud automation. All those arguments are rearing their ugly heads again but now its... the whole software development industry (maybe the whole world, really). It's frightening, because the psychosis folks operate under an almost absolute "MTTR is all you need" mentality: "its fine to ship bugs because the agents will fix them so quickly and at a scale humans can't do!" We learned in infrastructure that MTTR is great but you can't yeet resilient systems entirely. The main issue is I don't even know how to bring this up to people I know personally, because bringing this topic up leads to immediately dismissals like "no no, it has full test coverage" or "bug reports are going down" or something, which just don't paint the whole picture. We already learned this lesson once in infrastructure: you can automate yourself into a very resilient catastrophe machine. Systems can appear healthy by local metrics while globally becoming incomprehensible. Bug reports can go down while latent risk explodes. Test coverage can rise while semantic understanding falls. Changes happens so fast that nobody notices the underlying architecture decaying. I worry.

why do you weirdos call it “military time”. why should one number refer to two entirely different times of day. Shoo

I’m sick of AI. I’m sick of talking about AI. I’m sick of hearing about AI. I’m sick of thinking about AI. Sick of everyone having opinions about AI. And most definitely sick of being forced to read or listen to or live with the stupid decisions made by AI. It’s so dull. Nothing has moved in years and it’s just tedious. Not great for a fellow at an AI foundation lol but yeah fuck off with AI.
