IITian Who rejected the US Dream to make bottle caps for steel drums - Technocraft Inds 🔥 In 1969, Sharad Saraf graduated from IIT Bombay with two full American scholarships in hand He rejected both and spent a year mastering micron-level precision tooling in East Germany In 1972, teamed up with his brother Sudarshan in in Maharashtra with ₹2 Lakh in borrowed capital Product was completely unglamorous: drum closures American giant Greif Inc. dominated the globe & Licence Raj made things even harder for them Built their own Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) from scratch, Secured patents & began exporting In 2005, they made an insane contrarian bet - Opening a factory inside China's & today, Technocraft controls 🔥 Generates ₹2,750+ Cr in revenue, and Exports to 80 Countries with zero debt Commands 35% of world market outside China
Astral Pipes - Founder Who Sold His House 🔥 In 1996, Sandeep Engineer spotted CPVC pipes replacing iron & copper during a US visit. He Brought the technology to India by licensing it from Lubrizol - becoming its first Indian partner. To Build Astral's first factory, he sold his own house & first bet failed badly Industrial CPVC pipes found almost no demand, leaving the plant running at just 5% capacity utilization. Instead of abandoning CPVC, he shifted - In 2001, Astral pivoted to plumbing pipes, where CPVC proved cheaper, more durable, and easier to install. Pivot changed everything. Astral raised ₹35-37 Cr through its IPO & the stock compounded 20% CAGR over the next 12 years 🔥
