Running a company: 2020: can you survive a pandemic? 2021: still here? we’re going to give all of your competitors $100m series A rounds. 2022: wow, you made it? okay, all engineers cost $600,000/year now. 2023: nice job! okay, we’re going to take away your bank account.

Most situations don’t call for an “attack dog” lawyer. They call for a “relentlessly constructive problem solver” lawyer.

A Cincinnati law firm that’s worked with some of the region’s top venture-backed companies has launched a new practice group to offer formal full-service legal counsel to startups, entrepreneurs and investors. bizjournals.com/cincinnati/i…

Nothing says hip DJ concept like that giant @Ulmer_Berne sign. To the credit of @chrisbergman he does nothing small. #BLINKCincinnati

I’m 4 months sober and likely never going back to booze. Is that a “status signal” or are tech people (again) just on the bleeding edge of a trend that later becomes normalized?
Interestingly, not drinking has become the new status signal for tech elites

Getting to manage this IP portfolio through exit was one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do as an IP lawyer. Proud of these guys and our city.

I love this quote. Don’t conflate the biz with your self worth. And know that the seeming “overnight success” of a founder is usually littered with failures.
Start-ups fail often, but founders rarely do. Keep pushing.
In 20 years people will view alcohol like they see cigarettes now. Already feels like that change is happening

This is right. Startups need three tiers of info: 1) info that can be shared freely to sell you and your biz, 2) info under an NDA ONLY after you are on the 3rd+ date, and 3) info that is never shared even under NDA.
** FOUNDER TIP ** When I'm asked for a NDA, it is going to be a No on investment 99% of the time. Not because of the NDA, but because of their mentality, lack of understanding of the process, and the law. I'm leaving out a small %, but TBH I've never seen a good "NDA Deal".

As an IP attorney, where my biz is arguably ideas, I still disagree vehemently with this take. Ideas are easy compared to the real work of building a business. An operator will win over an ideator 100/100.
unpopular opinion but i think ideas are just as important as execution
