how can you out-compete the people who work 9 to 9, six days a week.
Revolut CEO Nik Storonsky: “The US is not that competitive. Europe is even less competitive.”
“China is competitive.”
“China is 9/9/6. Even if you are good in Europe, or in the US, how can you out-compete the people who work 9:00 to 9:00, six days a week?”
“I started in a co-working space with 140 companies. Within 5 years, only 3 companies survived. They all worked on the weekends.”
“Within 10 years, only 2 companies survived out of 140.”
“Working weekends is a must if you want to survive. Purely statistically.”

“Just their time” is a wild way to describe a decade of someone’s 30s.
In the end, these things are infinite games. Your lifespan and health is the ultimate runway you have as a founder.
In 2017, Monzo's founder called Revolut's FX and crypto a "1% niche problem".
Storonsky, on the same stage: Revolut opens 3,000 accounts a day, more than they do. Calling that a niche didn't add up.
What happened next:
1. FX was the wedge that won Revolut its first customers
2. Crypto became an acquisition tool: standard users unlocked it by inviting 3 friends
3. By 2021, FX and Wealth were 55% of Revolut's revenue

Doesn’t work in Africa. Make profits o.
A startup isn't supposed to make money.
It's supposed to grow fast and maximize the odds of returning a multiple to its investors.
Once you take VC money, your job is to increase value, not generate profit. If a company in my portfolio is sitting on profits, I'm annoyed. That cash should be going back into growth.
If you own 100% of your company, do whatever you want with the profits. Pay yourself a dividend. Buy a boat. Your call.
With VC funding, it doesn't work that way. Dividends sometimes become acceptable after an IPO, long after anyone still calls the company a startup.
Profit isn't the goal, it's what's left when you've run out of better places to put the money.

Everything is hard. Nothing works the first time. It all feels pointless. That’s when you realize you’re going to have to will it into existence with every ounce of your fucking soul. And that’s when it starts to happen.

Host a handful of journalists, and they’ll prattle on endlessly about our dear tech ecosystem. Will they debate how the media business they work in is hanging on for dear life? Don’t hold your breath.

The Lobito Corridor is moving from vision to implementation. The ambition is to build an integrated economic corridor — connecting export oriented trade with jobs through mining, energy, agribusiness, logistics, and much more along Zambia, DRC, and Angola.

At the round table hosted by the @StateDept, the @_AfricanUnion , the @CorpCnclAfrica, and @USChamber we advocated for more support towards infrastructure investment in Zambia...
The Logistics infrastructures already exist, the financial infra haven’t caught up.

Nomba DRC is extending its payments corridor into Zambia 🇨🇩🇿🇲
Zambia’s goods exports to the DRC hit $1.6B in 2025, up about a third in 2024. Our CEO @YinkaAdewale joined @cnbcafrica to talk about cross-border payments between the two markets 👇

I recently found out that: If you have a COMESA ID, you get to do trades between DRC and Zambia with a Visa.
You can just walk through the border, super cool!

I think developers are some of the hardest people to sell software to.
You can have the nicest website, the most impressive demo, and all the marketing in the world.
They'll install your tool, run one command, and know within five minutes whether you've been exaggerating.

Excited to share that @swoopappng has averaged over 550 daily orders this week… from a single restaurant! A huge thank you to the restaurant team for making this possible and preparing over 3 orders per minute at peak times!
And we are welcoming our 2,000th restaurant partner to the platform this week as well.
We launched Swoop in Lagos less than six months ago. This rapid growth is a testament to our work to make food delivery faster and more affordable for all Nigerians. Next up: bringing Swoop to more Nigerians, starting with our first cities outside Lagos.

Trillionaire mindset:
"I believe in my ability to figure it out more than I believe in any obstacle."
Trillionaire mindset be like: I don’t know how to do something, but I’ll figure it out. I’ll learn.
“I still have a tremendous amount to learn about chip making. I don't know how to make chips, to be clear. I have no idea how to make chips, but we'll figure it out. Got to start somewhere. I had no idea how to make cars or rockets as well.”

In Lusaka this week. Spent today with banks and the Central Bank.
Heading up to the Copperbelt next.
Nomba moves money for businesses trading between Zambia and the DRC.
Big part of this trip is meeting the people on the ground, from Lusaka to Kasumbalesa, and seeing how we serve them better.
Traders, truckers, EPC firms, mine suppliers. If that's you, DMs are open.
