Your country might be great but does it follow Australia’s lead by colour-coordinating its currency with the nation’s favourite snack foods?

I have three separate hobbies: 1. Reading books. 2. Buying books I’ll probably read someday. 3. Wandering around bookstores and libraries just to admire all the books.

AirBNB had its place and time, but it’s over. Had a lovely stay at a Hyatt last night, left trash in the can, towels on the ground, and am confident my corporate overlord isn’t going to light me up with a guest review video. A professional exchange of goods for money. The AirBNB hosts did this to themselves and the platform lost control long ago.
its just bonkers the new policy @airbnb is trying to put in place. Putting the dishes in the dishwasher, taking out the trash, pulling the sheets off the bed....they are just standard things any normal person would do when staying at a house. Why wouldn't a host be allowed to say that?

One of the hidden benefits of reading old books is that they rescue you from the arrogance of the present.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

The average Airbnb one-bedroom charges you $96 to clean the place after you leave. Then the host leaves a note asking you to strip the beds and start a load of laundry before you go. And Airbnb still keeps about $15 of that cleaning fee. Starting next month, hosts can't make you do that anymore. The reason they fought so hard to keep those checkout lists comes down to one line about towels. The line is "start a load of all white towels (use bleach)." Laundry is the slowest part of cleaning a rental. Towels take about an hour to wash and close to another hour to dry, and the cleaner usually has around five hours between an 11am checkout and a 4pm check-in to turn the whole place over. If you start the washer on your way out, the cleaner shows up with the slowest job already halfway done. Same deal with stripping the beds and dragging the trash out to the garage bin. Every task you do comes off the cleaner's clock, so one cleaner can flip more places in a day, and the host still collects the full fee. Airbnb's $15 comes from its host-only fee, which takes 15.5% of the booking subtotal with the cleaning fee counted in. So Airbnb was getting a cut of a cleaning you partly did yourself. Brian Chesky actually promised to fix this back in November 2022. He tweeted that guests shouldn't have to strip beds or do laundry. Nothing enforced it, so hosts kept printing the lists for four more years. This time Airbnb wrote real rules. For bookings made from November 20, hosts can't require you to strip beds, start laundry, wash and put away dishes, or haul trash off-site. Every request has to be on the listing before you book. A sign taped up in the kitchen or a message after you book doesn't count, so the exact sheet in this photo breaks the rules on day one. Hosts who ignore it get warnings and get pushed down in search. Here's why hosts are so mad about it. Back in 2022, Airbnb also started ranking listings by total price, cleaning fee included. So when cleaners got more expensive, a host really had two options. Raise the cleaning fee and sink in search results, or quietly hand some of the work to the guest. Airbnb just took away the second option. At least one host has already pulled their listing over this, and plenty more will threaten to. My guess is most of them stay and bump the price a little. Honestly, I'd take that. I'd rather see it in the total than find out at 9am on the last day of vacation that I'm doing somebody's laundry.
Airbnb is banning hosts from requiring guests to wash dishes, do laundry, or complete other "unreasonable" chores Hosts who violate the policy could face warnings, flagged listings, and reduced visibility
