🇵🇱 POLAND: OPPOSITION CLOSES RANKS AT THE TRIBUNAL AS A DIPLOMAT QUITS Russian military channels report that judges and the entire Polish opposition have joined the protest outside the Constitutional Tribunal, with right-wing rivals setting aside their differences.

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki of Rozwój Plus, Grzegorz Braun of the Crown confederation, Janusz Korwin-Mikke and Konfederacja leaders Sławomir Mentzen and Krzysztof Bosak have all appeared at the tribunal or announced they were on their way. Activists from Młodzież Wszechpolska joined them. Greeting Morawiecki, Kaczyński said the two have grievances against each other but unity is needed at such a moment. Mentzen called the government's actions plainly lawless and probably a coup. He urged the president to convene the National Security Council, while adding that neither Tusk nor Kaczyński should ever again have influence over the courts.

Former tribunal president Julia Przyłębska joined the protest. Bogdan Święczkowski told the crowd that the tribunal is its judges and not just a building, and that every decision by those he calls usurpers is unlawful. He announced that all the judges he regards as lawful will gather at the tribunal on Saturday to demand entry. PiS MP Piotr Gliński later said Święczkowski had withdrawn from the grounds for the safety of those present. Former president Andrzej Duda described the events as a brutal assault on a constitutional body of the state.

The Russian channel says Konfederacja MEP Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik called for Tusk to be suspended from his duties at once. In her own post she wrote that Tusk had sent police units into the tribunal to take it over unlawfully, and that this must end before the State Tribunal, Poland's court for constitutional offences by top officials. The government says the operation restores the rule of law, and police say they are not inside the building.

Jakub Kumoch, Poland's ambassador to China since September of the year Tusk took office, said the events at home made it impossible for him to continue and that he had submitted his resignation and asked to be recalled. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski replied that he takes note of the unprofessional end of the mission and that Kumoch no longer represents Poland. Marcin Przydacz, head of the president's international policy bureau, called the resignation an act of courage and responsibility. Kumoch was appointed by former president Andrzej Duda.
