My interest in art started with a love affair with color. Growing older, my interest in art gravitates towards projects which communicate the state of humanity. This image immediately caught my attention; thousands of spirits occupying each dress. Awareness is the first step.
How Red Dresses Became a Symbol for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (#MMIW)—#JaimeBlack’s ongoing art series, "The REDress Project," highlights the epidemic of violence against Indigenous women. bit.ly/32pV9P7 @voguemagazine

CLICK THE LINK to read on about Catlett ~ an early pioneer both as female artist and a woman of color for equal rights, who through creative thinking took action for social justice. Every bit, every little step we take, holds its weight.
Happy birthday to sculptor and printmaker #ElizabethCatlett! 🎂 Catlett used her art to advocate for social change in both the U.S. and her adopted country of Mexico for almost three-quarters of a century. bit.ly/2RyodC7

Teaching Black history year-round is just a start. Educators must include a historiographic lens too: “Who’s not being included in this history, and why aren’t those voices included?” —@thelilynews

“Multiverse”, is the largest painting I’ve done to date. I have one more in this size (48”x72”x2”). Often my work can be hung both vertical or horizontal - my client shared the first possible location in the vertical, perfect spot since music runs in my veins.

The importance of community. Be mindful of others. Be proactive by including someone who may seem awkward or a bit off. Some of us may look like we have it altogether, when in fact we are battling social anxiety or depression in our hearts and doing are best to “be normal”.
A study published in The American Journal of Psychiatry named #socialconnection as the strongest protective factor for depression, and suggested that reducing sedentary activities such as TV watching & daytime napping could also help lower the risk of #depression.

Works in progress. One doesn’t always appreciate where they are in life, but if you keep showing up you’ll eventually get to where you want to go. In your mature years (I think I’m there?) you realize that just by showing up you’re already there. #WIP
