What does meaningful institutional change look like for women aspiring to lead and those already in leadership? Our Women in Leadership Programme puts their experiences and perspectives at the centre of efforts to build more inclusive, equitable workplaces # WomeninLeadership.
One year of learning, reflection, and foundational work now informs the next phase of our WiL Programme. The team is using the Year 1 review to refine priorities, document lessons, and develop Year 2 plans towards more inclusive leadership and institutional practices at @uonbi
Our Women in Leadership (WiL) Programme has completed its first year (Oct 2025–Sept 2026). The team is reviewing progress, lessons learned, and challenges to inform Year 2 and build on foundational work to advance gender equality in leadership at the University of Nairobi. #women

On Day 2 of the International Conference on Gender, Law and Political Economy, PS Diaspora Affairs Roselyne Njogu’s keynote, Wifehood and Power: The Triple Bind of Law, Religion and Empire, challenged us to look beyond legal reform to the power relations shaping marriage @uonbi
Money, skills, and resources shape power within marriage, but so do structural privileges embedded in social institutions. How can we dismantle these inequalities? Rethinking how family law is taught, including how it addresses gender and power, is one place to start.
When determining property rights during marriage and at separation, how is contribution recognised? Where claims depend on proving a direct link between contribution and property acquisition, how are different forms of women’s labour accounted for? #GenderAndLaw @awsc_uonbi
Scholars and key institutional leaders and collaborators noted that the collaboration brings exchange of institutional traditions, experiences, and methodologies to advance interdisciplinary dialogue for inclusive and equitable societies #Gender #Law #PoliticalEconomy @uonbi

UoN has taken a step towards more gender-responsive HR systems; AWSC and the HR team led by the @uonbi DVC Human Resource and Administration reviewed evidence from the 2026 baseline survey by the AWSC-WIL and agreed on a roadmap for reviewing HR-related policies. #GenderEquity
Leaders and researchers at AWSC and the HR and Administration Division of @uonbi are currently holding a workshop to discuss AWSC-WiL baseline research findings to inform the review and establishment of gender-responsive HR policies and promotion criteria at the university
Despite the effort women invest in their work, institutional systems can create barriers that constrain their progression. Late-night meetings and other work demands, combined with women’s triple roles, can make it more difficult for women to progress. #Womenleadership @uonbi
AFRICAN WOMEN STUDIES CENTRE (AWSC)-UoN retweeted
🌟 "The future of gender equality depends on what we do together today. The next generation of gender equality efforts must be driven by evidence, shaped by women's experiences, and powered by collective action that delivers results where they matter most" - @AntoniaSodonon
Key statistics from the UoN Nominal rolls, graduation booklets, and current staff records show gender gaps across the academic pipeline-from students to graduates and academic staff. #PostgraduateProgression #WomeninLedership #WomeninEconomics
The postgraduate students' consultative forum moved beyond identifying challenges to discussing practical solutions to strengthen postgraduate progression at UoN, including clearer processes and communication, mentorship, supervisor capacity enhancement, and institutional support
For many women pursuing postgraduate studies, academic progression intersects with childcare and other responsibilities. The postgraduate students' consultative forum called for practical institutional responses that recognise these realities and support timely completion @uonbi
Today, in collaboration with @uonbi DEDS, AWSC has convened a consultative forum with UoN DEDS and AWSC postgraduate students to discuss mentorship, challenges affecting progression and completion, and opportunities to strengthen support for UoN female postgraduate students
