BioWare and their games were absolutely formative for me. It's hard to process the finality of their closure, even if the studio hadn't been the same for a while now.
This article is my attempt to honor the BioWare legacy and provide hope for the future.

I'm going to try all the Lifepaths eventually, but I think Nomad might always be my favorite.
- family first
- down to earth
- rough biker aesthetic
- not under megacorp oppression
From beginning to end, the Nomad path just feels like the "good" option through and through.

I am a much bigger fan of the vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077 than I thought I would be.
This one makes me feel like Batman.

With Mass Effect 5, BioWare sought to target the exact pain points of their previous titles and course correct the studio.
- Cinematic supervisor Tony de Waal said “We were making something special: a level of autonomy and choice that no other game has been able to match. [BioWare] saw what Larian and CD Projekt were bringing to the table and started down a path to bring Mass Effect to the next level."
- Dantics reported that missions were being handcrafted as open-ended “Hitman-style” environments that would give players immense freedom and variety in how to approach objectives, unlike the empty open world of Andromeda or the railroaded Veilguard.
- The narrative aimed at the roots of Mass Effect’s former success, going with a more grounded “Cold War” backdrop that directly fed back to the endings of the Mass Effect trilogy, thus avoiding the pitfalls of Andromeda which felt too distant and Anthem which was entirely too focused on live-service and multiplayer.
- The game was being built on Unreal Engine 5, finally freeing the developers from an internal EA engine that wasn’t built for RPGs and constantly throttled their progress.
The reasons to believe in this game are well-founded and documented. Mass Effect 5 was actively being made into what fans had been asking for all this time.

If you're interested in playing the Knights of the Old Republic games for the first time, or replaying them for the first time in a while, I think there's a definitive way to play each:
KOTOR 1 - Aspyr Nintendo Switch port
The game is great in handheld mode and doesn't require any additional setup. Just pickup and play. It also includes the exclusive PC content that wasn't on the original Xbox release.
KOTOR 2 - Aspyr mobile port
The mobile port of KOTOR 1 is currently broken, but KOTOR 2 works flawlessly AND it can be modded very easily to add the Restored Content mod.
Both games feel perfectly designed to handle touch controls so I hope the KOTOR 1 mobile port is fixed eventually. I know PC is always a great option, but the accessibility and ease of play can't be underestimated with these alternatives.

At our very first TGA, Bioware took home Game of the Year for Dragon Age: Inquisition. Mark Darrah and Aaryn Flynn accepted the award LIVE on-stage in Las Vegas.

Check out this post-mortem article on Bioware by @wesleytypes over on our website! It is a great article that goes in-depth on everything Bioware has done for the industry, and the future of the genres it pioneered:

Since we're talking "spiritual successors" my money is on the one that actually has the guy who made that trilogy.

"Why do you want Mass Effect 5 when you didn't want the last 3 BioWare games?"
- personnel changes
- no development woes
- most stable IP in their portfolio
- confident direction of leaked trailer
This really had a chance to be different by everything that's known about it.

#SaveMassEffect - A Message from the founder.
First, I want to say thank you.
When I started this petition and created #SaveMassEffect, I had no idea how quickly the community would come together. What began as one fan refusing to quietly accept the loss of something that meant so much to so many has grown into a movement supported by tens of thousands of people around the world.
And we’re only getting started.
Mass Effect has never been just another video game franchise. For many of us, it represents years of unforgettable stories, characters, friendships, and choices. It’s a universe that inspired us, brought us together, and reminded us that even against impossible odds, our actions matter.
That’s why this campaign exists.
Our goal is simple: Give Mass Effect a future.
We’re asking Electronic Arts to seriously consider two paths forward:
1. Commit to continuing Mass Effect’s development, with the resources, talent, and time necessary to deliver the experience this franchise deserves.
2. Explore licensing Mass Effect to a qualified development studio capable of carrying the franchise forward if EA no longer intends to develop it.
We’re not demanding rushed development, unrealistic promises, or an immediate announcement of a new game. We’re asking EA to recognize that this franchise still matters and that its community deserves to be heard.
I also want to make something very clear: This campaign is not against the developers, artists, writers, or employees of EA and BioWare. These are the people who helped create the universe we love. They deserve our respect and support.
Our campaign will remain respectful, organized, and focused on constructive solutions.
Where We Go From Here
As the founder of #SaveMassEffect, I’m working to turn the incredible support we’ve received into an organized effort.
Over the coming days, I’ll be focusing on expanding our outreach, connecting with gaming journalists and community creators, bringing volunteers into the campaign, and establishing a professional line of communication with EA.
With N7 Day approaching on November 7, we have an opportunity to show just how much this universe still means to people around the world.
Our next milestone is 100,000 signatures. But signatures alone aren’t the ultimate goal. Our goal is meaningful dialogue and a genuine opportunity to secure Mass Effect’s future.
How You Can Help
- Keep sharing the petition and using #SaveMassEffect.
- Encourage fellow fans to participate respectfully.
- Share what Mass Effect means to you and why you want to see its story continue.
- Help spread the campaign beyond our existing communities.
I’m currently organizing this effort independently, and I know I can’t do everything alone. As we grow, I’ll be looking for dedicated community members who want to help build something lasting.
Finally, I want everyone supporting this campaign to remember something:
We cannot guarantee that EA will change its plans. But we can make sure the community’s voice is impossible to overlook.
Every signature represents someone who believes this universe is worth preserving.
You have already shown me that I am far from alone in that belief.
Thank you for standing with me. Thank you for standing with the developers who gave us this incredible universe. And thank you for refusing to let Mass Effect’s future go unquestioned.
Our choices matter. Our voices matter.
#SaveMassEffect
