Question to those who think socialism is better than capitalism: When the Berlin wall fell, who ran to which side?

Log on to X to discover that an obscure Midlands Councillor has become one of the most famous (and memed) politicians in the western world. The Streisand effect is alive and well.

"I am shocked, shocked to find, after three years of weekly hate marches, and my colleague and mentor, Ed Miliband, helping legitimise the government of Iran (prior to a terrorist attack) and delegitimise Israel, that Jews don't feel as safe in the UK." bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq39…

Things that are now (also) far right extremism.
EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Home Office counter-terrorism documents link “nostalgia for traditionalism” and fears over immigration, liberalism and multiculturalism to “Christian extremism”. Officials propose working with churches to promote “theological resilience” against the use of Christian teachings to justify hatred or violence. I obtained dozens of pages from RICU’s report on “Christian extremism”. Among the findings: • Images of happy families in wartime, peaceful countryside and classical statues are described as a “hook” towards an extremist worldview. • Tommy Robinson’s rallies and a Christmas carol concert come under scrutiny, alongside Christian fitness groups. • “Bob from Speakers’ Corner” features, despite RICU identifying no extremist content from him. Yet the report acknowledges that the threat of violence from Christian extremists remains “low”. Jeremiah Igunnubole, UK legal counsel for ADF, says the report “suggests an institutional anti-Christian bias has taken hold in the Home Office”. stevenedginton.substack.com/…

Is the message from the Met’s “Women in Firearms” photo “don’t let women anywhere near firearms because they don’t know how to hold them safely”?

I was in tears yesterday talking to Leonard Moss. He was a 22–year-old nurse who offered to help when a tip fell on a school in Aberfan killing 116 children. Leonard washed the children’s faces “so their mum and dad could give them a kiss goodbye”. Heartbreaking. Aberfan was a man-made disaster. Coal production mattered more than safety. The National Coal Board gambled with children’s lives - and lost. There were no criminal prosecutions. Zero accountability for killing 116 mixed infants - we see the same incompetence and villainy still thriving today in the Post Office scandal, rape gangs, infected blood, maternity deaths, Nottingham murders. Many in the village had survivor’s guilt - only the guilty men didn’t suffer guilt. Ordinary men and women, despised and treated appallingly by the state - £50 compensation per child? - were responsible for many acts of quiet heroism on that darkest of days. Read about it here. 👇 The horror of Aberfan will never die, but neither will the humanity telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Well it won't will it. It's just displacing gas from elsewhere. What an obviously silly thing to post.

We need to build a serious Navy. This is a superb idea. In fact, not just superb, rightful.

Every academic claiming Scruton was a fraud or a pseud or "massively overrated" or whatever has roughly the same bio - "Age: 39. Deputy assistant interim professor of theory (part-time), University of Gravesend. Author of Was Thatcher Pure Evil? (forthcoming). Patreon..."

Sarah Helm really is just posting through it, isn't she? Remarkable. In any sane world she'd be worried about causing her husband to get fired, but she just doesn't care. On she goes. Presumably Powell also doesn't care. Either he agrees with her or knows nothing will happen

Another British Fumble! £2bn AI data centre in Essex. 23,000 Nvidia chips, planning permission sorted, Microsoft signed up as the anchor tenant Microsoft has reportedly now walked. Because the grid told them they can't have the power until 2033/34 The government literally named this site in its own AI action plan. They talk about AI growth zones every other week. And we can't get 90MW to a field in Essex for 8 years Same story as the reservoirs. We don't build the boring stuff, so the exciting stuff can't happen here

The scene wasn't so different 20 years ago
This beautiful film is around 100 years old. It shows France’s elegant society in the 1920s, capturing the lively boulevards, cafés, and historic landmarks in lovely detail.
