A misunderstanding is that Edit is simply “changing the text in a Tweet” when the real challenge is ensuring consistency amongst hundreds of products and systems built over a decade which made the fundamental assumption that Tweets are immutable - while minimizing abuse vectors

I think people underestimate the infrastructure complexity introduced by a Twitter edit button. A lot of data stores would need to handle mutable data, including their search infra.

I can set up an application twice: once in a data center, once in a cloud provider. Then I go on vacation for a decade. I'll come back to more durable cloud application that almost certainly costs me less, and a data center that was dismantled by raccoons in year 4.
