Ss learning bathymetric sonar in Marine Science using @VernierST motion detectors. Started old school, ss collect + graph data -surface plot in excel. But now exported data as .csv used AI to analyze data creating 3D interactive maps! @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

First ever successful eDNA extraction by HS ss in my lab from DRINKING WATER. This was a fungal DNA primer. Only ran 3 tests to try our procedure! Hmmm what's in our water? Inquiring minds want to know! @nanopore sequencing NEXT!

HS students in my lab have been trying to run MEANINGFUL molecular dynamic simulations to answer THEIR questions for years, we never had a good way to truly compare & visualize results -until NOW! Can't wait to assess what we've learned! @GMX_TWEET @buildmodels

Not all heroes wear capes, sometimes they wear bright yellow volunteer t-shirts! 15 Ss from mult LI schools gave hrs of their summer Saturday to recycle close to 1,000 lbs of oyster shells from the Oyster Jamboree @PortJeffNY #LISEC LI Seaport & Ecology Center @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

Its a wrap "Barcode the Bay" our 1st ever student DNA barcode/Biodiversity study of @PortJeffNY harbor! We have MANY interesting DNA sequences to follow up on! This is just the start! This was supported by #LISEC Long Island Seaport & Ecology Center + @DNALC. @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

We've assembled an ARMY of STUDENT VOLUNTEERS to help recycle Oyster Shells at the Oyster Jamboree @PortJeffNY through #LISEC to help spat on shell programs & oyster reef restoration! Now we just need lots of people to eat Oysters this Saturday!

DNA seq analysis of our plant samples at our Barcode the Bay Camp in @portjeffny has interesting results! Local plants, invasives, dangerous plants + this NUT -it barcodes to SEVERAL species, none produce nuts. Based on shape maybe a Areca? Any ideas? @DNALC @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

We have plant DNA sequences! From our DNA Barcoding & Ecology Camp in @PortJeffNY Can't wait to see the Ss analysis tomorrow of the various shore/seaweed plants Barcoded. We also did paper alignments/candy bar phylogeny so Ss UNDERSTAND their results! #LISEC @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

The start of wk 2 of our DNA Barcoding & Ecology Camp in @portjeffny saw tons of lab work! Ss extracted DNA from 28 invert samples. Pos PCR for 24! We used @3DMolDesigns to help model PCR & Gel Electrophoresis -students should UNDERSTAND the Science @NYSMTP @DNALC @STANYSorg

Day 1 of our "Barcode the Bay" DNA Barcoding & Ecology Camp in @PortJeffNY for local HS students was...wet, due to tons of RAIN, we basically spent the day indoors learning background & techniques. Tomorrow: SCIENCE! #LISEC @DNALC @NYSMTP @STANYSorg

Really fun Anatomy lab today -totally student designed inquiry: using @VernierST probes, we tested the intensity of work from the Rectus Femoris when doing various exercises. Lots more data analysis to do, but the concept looks AWESOME! @NYSMTP @STANYSorg
