Two weeks in: 2,858 people have opened the Marble Index and run thousands of searches. Most looked up this week: Bluey Minecraft Kerbal Space Program Kerbal at #3 surprised me. It's the top score of all 563 titles.

AI in education is my fav application
In July we open-sourced a dynamic graph of everything a child learns in primary school. 1,590 concepts, 3,221 dependencies. Now we’re turning every concept into interactive experiments kids can play and learn from. First one, age 7: heat and water. Everything that used to be a boring textbook can now be an engaging experience, potentially tailored to every child. Kids education just got a massive upgrade.

Big open source upgrade for the aspiring homeschoolers out there!
Following the fantastic reaction to our interactive learning experiments, we’ve decided to create an open source skill for anyone to build their own 💪🏗️ It's called the Marble-Builder. You tell it your child’s age and what they’re curious about and it builds a playable experiment for them. What’s built into the skill: - 1,837 concepts kids learn through primary school, and the 3,853 links between them - 1,049 teaching research records on how kids learn best - It agrees a plan with you, then builds, tests and fixes the experiment itself You stay in control and can adjust everything. AI is a tool with huge potential to make teaching even better for both parents and teachers. We want anyone with something to teach to be able to bring it to life in an interactive, personalized way. It’s a first prototype so there is a lot to improve. One big next step is to make the experiments more beautiful visually. Parents, teachers, homeschoolers: show us what you make. We’ll gather the best experiences into the first open, interactive encyclopedia for kids. Incredibly exciting times for kids education. Links to try it below 👇

We built a free collaborative tool for parents to evaluate kids' content quality. You type the name of a book, a movie, an app, a game or a Youtube channel and it returns a score. The evaluation framework is based on prior research and looks at 4 different dimensions: attention, curiosity, learning and safety. Users can upvote and downvote and if the feedback reaches enough volume the title gets re-evaluated with a manual check. It's called the Marble Index and it's now live 👇🏻

We just released a fast and reliable way to score any piece of kid content. It's called the Marble Index, and you can check it out here: marbleindex.org/
Introducing the @withmarbleapp index: a simple a robust way to score kids entertainment. As a parent you can find age ratings but nobody tells you whether a title actually helps a child grow. So we built a way to measure it. You paste a link, we analyse, you get a score. Core principles are: -> 5 criteria: Curiosity & Creativity, Learning & Development, Respect for Attention, Online Safety, Physical & Sexual Safety -> Grounded in the research: Hirsh-Pasek et al.'s four pillars of learning, the LEGO Foundation on learning through play, Radesky et al. on manipulative design in kids' apps, the UK Children's Code, UNICEF's guidance on AI, the @korabench on AI safety for children, and Common Sense Media's rating criteria -> Every title comes with a parent guide: who it's for, watch together or alone, what to talk about afterwards -> The grid is versioned and has a test suite: a reference set of 200 titles (and growing) with expected score ranges per criterion -> Every score gets a confidence measure, by scoring each title several times and showing how much the runs agree -> Scores are continuously calibrated against child-development experts and existing ratings -> Every disagreement a parent sends becomes a candidate test case, so the reference set grows with use and each new version of the grid has to pass more cases than the last Let me know what you think.

Kid version of the Watercolor Simulator coming next on @withmarbleapp 👀
Last week-end I built a watercolor simulator based on real physics (as much as possible). A lot of you asked to play with it so i improved it and it's now live. New since the prototype: - More pigments (52), based on the best research out there to predict color mixes (Kubelka-Munk). - More luminous / glassy feel - Some fun experimental stuff like the salt and alcohol techniques to alter the texture, a backlight effect and a few more. - I also added a Code mode where the simulator prints its real function calls next to the sheet while you paint 🤓♥️ It's still largely based on the same physics model as my prototype: Curtis et al.'s "Computer-Generated Watercolor". All in the browser. Current status: building and implementing a kid-friendly version for @withmarbleapp. Plenty of awesome things to learn with watercolor painting!

We built a game that teaches kids how to share a river. There is one river and five who need it: a farm, a factory, a power station, a town, and the fishes. Since there is never enough for everybody, the goal is to manage the river and split it drop by drop amongst the different stakeholders. Each decision has consequences and you have to survive for 3 years. You can also throw a water balloon battle. It scores nothing but it's worth it. Soon available inside the @withmarbleapp beta, alongside plenty more interactive learning experiences for kids aged 6 to 12. Link to play River Keeper web demo below 👇

A mega month of July for @withmarbleapp. 10,000 families have now signed-up for our beta, 2M+ organic impressions, $0 spent on acquisition. Incredible support and feedback from the X community, thank you! Here's what we shipped this month: → A generative craft system: kids can build (almost) anything inside Marble → Open-sourced the Marble curriculum: everything a child can learn through primary school based on US and UK standards, mapped dynamically (3.9K stars on Github) → Avatars + customization shop → Cooking corner → Tap-to-move → Fullscreen drawings → Parachute + vehicle shop → First storytelling layer for the island guide → Interactive lessons web demos: a water lab, an ecosystem simulator, a solar system explorer → 4 TestFlight builds Marble is the first generative learning world for kids aged 6 to 12, and I can't wait to show you what's next. Also, I'm making a few updates to our landing page. If you find the latest easter egg, there's a surprise behind it :) Stay tuned, and most importantly: Stay curious.

A fully generative craft system is now available in our beta! Kids can invent, design and create any object in 3D. We designed it in a realistic way, so that kids have to actually think about what they're doing if they want it to work. The only limit is their imagination.
We just launched a generative craft system inside @withmarbleapp. Kids can now create anything and turn it into a 3D object on their map. It's designed to be realistic, so kids have to use their brain to make things happen. It works like this: 1) You describe or sketch what you want to build 2) Marble creates a blueprint you can iterate on 3) You pick the resources and tools you think you need to make it (if you have them) 4) Marble crafts the object. If the build is successful and you can drop it on your map! Since you can create your own tools, there is no limit to what you can build with this system. So excited to see what kids make with it!

This is how a 7 year-old boy addicted to Fortnite became obsessed with Polish history. Session 1: child comes into @withmarbleapp, challenges the character, tries to break it. Session 2: not great either, but he shares more about what he likes in Fortnite, talks about his avatar, shares a bit more about him. Session 3: our system prompts him with "Do you know that in Poland they had these big warriors riding horses with giant wings on their back?" The kids says: "I don't believe you." -> our system shows a picture of the Polish winged hussars. The kid: "Wow, no way!" -> sparks a 20 minute conversation about Polish history. The mum texted us that evening. What happens above could happen with any kid. It's not because they love Fortnite that they don't have interest or curiosity. We're building Marble to uncover curiosity, nurture it and turn these spark into learning experiences.
