What advice would you give to someone hoping to secure their next role in SLT?
Would any of these give them a better chance - NPQSL or Masters in education leadership.
I did this when my kids were young - started on 3 days then up to 4. Worked days off just to have family time. Not to mention the impact it has on your teacher pension…things need to change to keep parents in the job role otherwise who will teach the next generation?
Part-time pay. Full-time workload.
“I was being paid eighty percent of my pay to work on that fifth day for free.”
Liz Webb describes using her unpaid day off to mark, answer emails and keep on top of schoolwork. It made the workload manageable but meant taking a pay cut to get it done.
Part-time teachers: is your day off actually a day off? 👇

Blaming Gove for 1 million NEETs so confidently is very disingenuous. You don’t seriously believe that because in the same article you concede standards have been going up.
Letting local businesses influence curriculum for 14yr olds isn’t ‘ambitious’; it will let children down.
Education should be a passport - to work, to life, to further study. But too many young people are still being shut out.
Everyone deserves an education that matches their high ambitions, not a one‑size‑fits‑all straitjacket.

The start of the Summer break is supposed to feel euphoric right? For many educators (and children!) this might not the the case. The school week is incredibly busy and fast-paced and suddenly going from having everything to do, to nothing to do, can feel really strange.
Some educators (and children!) also find the removal of their familiar routine unsettling and it can take a couple of weeks to settle into the new pace of life.
If you’re feeling this way, you are not alone 💙.

If you're the mother who was reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone aloud to your child on the LNER train from London to Edinburgh yesterday, one of my grown up children was listening and says you did the voices brilliantly❤️🥹

If we invested in teacher morale with the same intensity as we do in chasing the next great curriculum or initiative, our schools and students would be far better off.
