To my farming mates,
Rain is coming, everyone is tired, busted & cranky either trying to get winter crop in or summer crop off, or both.
But please be careful & slow down a little to make sure you get home to your family tonight.
2 good men in 2 weeks lost around here.

@GrainOrana trial in problematic ARG population this year- assumed to be a result of resistance. Trials showed adequate control of the population now much older. Mixes, application and timing are huge influences

New ranking of ryegrass load= catastrophic to match the weather. Just finished the last GRDC survey. Final region = SW Vic. Lots of clean paddocks. One farmer said Sakura used under perfect conditions; we couldn’t find a single plant!! Also wild radish found in 1/120 paddocks.

Have recently had some film digitised and came across this video of my father (driving the tractor), uncle and grandfather loading a harvester onto their truck at Alma Park, Trundle in 1955. Don't think i will try that with the CR9.90

Mid-April sown hybrid canola have roots deeper than 4m which is the depth of the cores shown here at Iandra. Deep rooting, water and N use will be very interesting on these plots which were fallowed in 2018.

Been sitting on the fence over this issue here @ERS_UNE, but when I heard a colleague had to leave a pub due to the threat of physical violence I felt moved sufficiently to put pen to paper.

Nice article. I agree and recently presented at a conference on this exact topic. I reckon 75% of the agronomist job is non-technical - human/social. One thing to keep in mind is that there are less and less farmers every year, so competition will become stronger
