You can tell the talks between Norway, Finland and Russia were important because @thetimes felt it had to give them a paragraph on p30.
Much as it undermined their pro-war agenda, the paper couldn't completely ignore two NATO members reopening diplomatic channels with Moscow.
Bias is often shown as much by the prominence given to a story as the way in which it's written.
Finland joining NATO in 2023 after decades of neutrality was, of course, front page news.

This is forced mobilization in Volyn. A man is brutally beaten and then shoved into a bus. This is no longer about defending the country. It is about breaking people who have already given everything. Ordinary Ukrainians are being hunted, beaten, and dragged away while the nation is exhausted and bleeding. When the state turns on its own like this, it is not protecting anyone — it is finishing what the war started.

How on earth is Jonathan Freedland the appropriate guest for this? It's just basic professional journalism to understand he's a problematic interviewee. Freedland has frequently demonstrated that he's an extremist and yet is treated by the BBC as a "sensible" voice. It's absurd.

Good evening, Mark. Did the £15,000 donation you’ve accepted from Gary Lubner and the £10,000 donation you’ve accepted from the Trevor Chinn-funded syndicate Labour Together possibly have a bearing on this contentious tweet?

The Prime Minister of Denmark is upset that Finland and Norway broke with 4.5 years of boycotting diplomacy by calling President Putin. God forbid we talk to the other side and start talking about peace.

We need a bigger and more public debate on this, with other qualified voices such as ex-diplomat Ian Proud and Commodore Steve Jermy being heard, who I would say are close to Peter's position.
Why do these people not get airtime in the UK?

🚨 Europe Rejected Peace With Putin. Now It’s Risking Its Economy to Keep Ukraine’s War Going
Retired UK Commodore Steve Jermy argues Europe made a costly strategic mistake by rejecting earlier peace opportunities with Russia, including the Istanbul terms. He says many European leaders can only fantasize about getting such good terms now.
When facing Russia’s stronger negotiating position, he contends, Europe delaying accepting a realistic settlement only produces worse terms later — a reality Europe and Ukraine are now confronting as the war continues.
Beyond the battlefield, Jermy warns Europe’s economic position is deteriorating. With France struggling, Germany flirting with recession, and energy pressures mounting, the central question is no longer purely military.
“Where is the money going to come from” just to conduct affairs of state, much less for weapons and ammunition that don’t even exist in sufficient quantities for Ukraine, he asks, noting that the liquidity needed to sustain support for Ukraine is looking increasingly scarce.
Jermy also raises concerns about the long-term burden on European taxpayers. Given Ukraine’s economic decline and growing debt, he believes much of the money sent to Kyiv is unlikely ever to be repaid — meaning future generations across Europe may ultimately pay the cost while leaders face hard questions about prioritizing the war over domestic needs.

Peace, but not at any cost. This is what they keep putting into Ukrainians’ heads as a reason not to end the war.
I don’t understand: what price could possibly be higher than the one we are already paying today?
Europeans are losing money and feeling uncomfortable. Ukrainians are paying with blood. And the very future of the Ukrainian nation is at stake. If this war continues as it is now, we will pay with our own existence. As long as we refuse realistic negotiations, Ukraine risks losing its independence, its sovereignty, and the nation itself.
Everyone who sells you the rosy illusion of military victory will be the first to leave the country, abandoning the people to their fate. The highest price — hundreds of thousands of lives — has already been paid. Are we ready to pay hundreds of thousands more lives and lose millions of refugees?
The only victory for Ukraine today is a realistic peace agreement that stops the shelling, ends the profiteering from the war, and allows the economy and democracy to be restored.

Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Israel did not send combat soldiers to fight and die alongside US troops in the Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq War or other recent major US operations. In 1991 Israel stayed out at US request to preserve the Arab coalition. Support has involved intelligence sharing, technology and experience rather than ground forces. Claims that Israel pushed the US into those wars remain contested among historians.

The West’s inability to have a grown-up discussion about the Ukraine war is staggering.
It sits at the same level as the COVID madness from liberals. Question the narrative and you’re immediately a Putin apologist, a traitor, or worse. No nuance allowed. No costs discussed. No exit strategy considered.
This is the simple truth.
