Our Hymek D7018 was started up at Williton for the first time in almost two years and sounded great. Transmission tests revealed some problems with the directional interlock mechanism but this is outside the transmission and will be sorted out in the next week or two.

Yesterday was a big day for us, it was D1010 lift day. Both engines were lifted out, the body lifted onto stands and the bogies rolled out. For the first time since Swindon works, a Western has been lifted with two cranes and put on stands! Quite a rare sight!

Culmination of long and careful planning, skill and effort by @wsrdepg team has ended today with Western D1010 separated into loco body (on stands), twin engines (in shed) and bogies needing 'a bit of work'. depg.org/2024/07/08/d1010-sa…

On Saturday 15th June Class 35 ‘Hymek’ D7017 will be in use on the 10:00 departure from Minehead under the BLUE timetable. Unfortunately due to a crew availability issue the booked Sunday 16th June working will revert to Class 33 haulage with D6575 in charge.

Apologies to ‘Hymek’ fans, but please be assured that this is NOT a locomotive issue but a crew availability issue. Photo by Sylvia Way ©

Firstly, we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the @WSomRailway Summer Diesel Festival on the 6th - 8th of June and those who came for tours of our depot. We had a great time and hope you did too!

Secondly, for the first time in DEPG history, our depot was staffed by all women on Sunday the 9th of June on the mixed traction day. All four are not only members, but active volunteers for the group and can be seen at our depot regularly.

A day spent at the West Somerset Railways diesel gala. Mostly behind 50033!! Unfortunately I was slightly dampened by the worst hay fever I've ever had... Anyway, managed to get a peak at the GWR HST set stabled and St Blazeys last 09!
