What magic new jobs are these people going to walk into? How will government make up the shortfall in tax? How much will it cost to support people financially who lose their jobs to AI?
Barclays plans to axe 5,000 jobs this year, with developers bearing the brunt of the cuts as the UK bank adopts AI across its operations. The cuts equate to about 5% of the workforce, the bank said on Thursday, and are part of a broader cost-cutting drive ft.trib.al/Goyxjzw

This one really hurts. Mass Effect and Dragon Age are some of my favourite games. How did it come to this?
BREAKING: BioWare is shutting down and the next Mass Effect game is canceled, according to a new report. bit.ly/4iwUR0J

Most people do not know what their dream game is nor how to describe it. What they'd end up with is just, 'I'd like to play Zelda but with cars and the guy from GTA.' AI will do that fine because it happily rips things off, but it is no substitutue for talent or taste
Replying to @TimSweeneyEpic
Imagine describing your dream game to AI and playing it 10 minutes later.

Or perhaps people can ask AI what their dream game is and it will spit it out for them

Is this actually real? Because if so... yikes

The thing through all this really is: why would I pay for AI art when I can just generate it myself? Why pay for a COD skin when I can play COD in a browser for free? Why pay for Fortnite at all when everything in it is AI generated, and AI generated content has no value?

In the race to use AI to cut costs (which, let's be honest, this is about), video games become a new "slop" where nothing has value, because AI bros can just make it themselves, maybe even better, or copy it a day after it's released

Can you claim standard copyright over AI generated art?
We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration. The aim isn't to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.

The true AI war is AI DMCA-ing AI-generated games in an endless loop
Activision just DMCA’d me for porting CoD games to the browser. They nuked every post and every game is now offline. Am I the first vibe coder to get DMCA’d by a major gaming company? It was fun while it lasted, boys. 🫡

Man, what happened to Danny Boyle? He used to be really fucking cool
Danny Boyle says he used AI to replace an actor’s face with Margaret Thatcher’s in “Ink” because he didn’t want to “use a Thatcher imitator.” “It was very important to use that we didn’t use a Thatcher imitator,” he said, acknowledging that Thatcher and The Sun editor Lamb’s relationship was well documented. “She used to visit Larry Lamb’s office late at night after the edition had gone out, and they drank whisky together. She’d take her shoes off, curled up on the sofa.” He also admitted that his didn’t ask the Thatcher state beforehand: “I declined the ask the estate for permission to do that. I don’t think the estate of people like Margaret Thatcher should have control over our ability to insist on ideas in art about what her influence was on our lives. So that was really important.” variety.com/2026/film/global…

Surely this is an existential crisis for the video game industry? I'm not sure what can be done, but I imagine there are conversations happening about what should be done

"All games are open source now" is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've seen an AI bro say on here all year
All games are open source now! I pointed opus 5.5 at terraria last night and I woke up with a fully working reverse engineered version of terraria! Added homing missile launcher, tactical nuke and bunch of new mobs (sprites + sound effects done with the @fal cli/mcp) We are truly in a new era of creativity, this is genuinely insane!

These AI things always use existing games. Look what I did with your favourite game, look at these two games I combined, never any actual new ideas, because they don't have any
Fallout: New York, a full Fallout game you play in your browser, built with Claude Opus 5.5. Quests. Dialogue trees. V.A.T.S. A working Pip-Boy. Zero texture files. Zero sound files. Every building, weapon, face and sound is generated by code.
