It's been obvious to me for a long time that a lot of readers don't have any idea why writers write. That's why they immediately interpret "engagement" to mean "fame" or "compensation" rather than community, and the interaction between perceiver and perceived. +

most fic writers don’t want engagement to “get famous” or anything. it’s just that when you put your heart into something, it feels good to know people liked and enjoyed it. it also helps motivation to write more. if you ignore fic writers, there won’t be any more fics to read🤷‍♀️

Everyone wants to dunk on this writer but if an artist was unhappy with their art being dumped into a drive and shared by others, we’d all be understanding. You can save images from just about any app or site, but we don’t tell artists to never upload.
