Many people assume AI will one day be conscious because they confuse consciousness with intelligence, and they probably do this because both consciousness and intelligence are human qualities. So there's an assumption that once you have enough intelligence, you get consciousness.

At my last company we did pretty similar projects with both companies. Stripe had lots of design sessions and multiple PMs and a team of engineers. Adyen had one PM and one eng. Funny thing is that even at Stripe eventually it was one eng who got everything done.
