a plastic water bottle can collapse without anyone touching it. put a sealed bottle in a freezer and let the air inside cool down. as the temperature drops, the pressure inside changes. the flexible plastic walls can then bend inward under the higher outside air pressure. the bottle isn't being crushed by the freezer. the surrounding air is doing the work.
