Seemed timely to re-discover this thread “we are building palaces on top of crumbling infrastructure”
Ok, to hell with it, I’m going to read through @nayafia’s white paper and try to draw out some interesting sections.

A reminder as petrol, gas & coal prices soar due to a horrible war… the price of the sunshine & wind powering 30% of our grid & all our electric vehicles… hasn’t changed. It’s still a $0 cost input. Energy independence comes from renewable abundance.

GitHub is down. Don't panic. We've trained for this. Take a deep breath, grab a marker and a whiteboard, and let's implement some sorting algorithms. Just like we did in the interview.

I would pay an unconscionable amount of money to see Ali from Euphoria and Raymond Reddington from The Blacklist converse about pretty much anything
Wished coding interviews were evaluating how well you classify problems rather than whether you know the optimal solution or not. If you can recognize a known problem, you can look it up. That’s how we work.
If successful, gainfully employed engineers have to "cram" or otherwise prepare in-depth for your technical interview process, your technical interview sucks.

This is a big day for CSS. After 25 years of devs being told that CSS cannot have parent selectors because they’re too slow, Safari TP 137 not only implements :has(), but enables it by default. And AFAIK @igalia is working on a Chrome implementation! webkit.org/blog/12156/releas…

in light of the log4j thing, untold amounts of web app data could be leaked, so to be safe, please remember to change your birthdate and mother's maiden name

half the internet is vulnerable because, frankly, we relied on an open source project from some guy working 2 jobs, 1 unpaid. of course it's got problems. who could do better? he's doing the best he can. why are we so bad at paying for the time of devs of critical dependencies?

This is the maintainer who fixed the vulnerability that's causing millions(++?) of dollars of damage. "I work on Log4j in my spare time" "always dreamed of working on open source full time" "3 sponsors are funding @rgoers's work: Michael, Glenn, Matt" People, what are we doing.

Log4j maintainers have been working sleeplessly on mitigation measures; fixes, docs, CVE, replies to inquiries, etc. Yet nothing is stopping people to bash us, for work we aren't paid for, for a feature we all dislike yet needed to keep due to backward compatibility concerns.

I've done a lot of interviewing for IC roles this year, and it's been fascinating to see what a company's hiring process optimises for

Hi Nate! It's @roy, co-founder of AppSignal. I've sent you an email but wanted to own up to this publicly as well. Though we never had the intention to plagiarize your work, we ended up doing so, and we feel bad about that. A thread 🧵 1/6

Closed captions but for face blindness. Super impose name badges above characters heads like their NPC in a video game. Not being able to tell characters apart ruins so many big reveals 😅
