Quite a few new people have found me here over the past few weeks, so I thought I’d tell you a little about myself. I’m Evgeniia, from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. A few people in the replies have already moved me to Saudi Arabia, so I should probably clear that up: I don’t live there yet. I’m working on it. 🙂 Rebuilding my professional life while preparing to move to another country has turned out to take a lot of time and energy. Saudi Arabia gave me back my ambition, and the desire to wake up in the morning, during the hardest period of my life. That is a large part of why it means so much to me. I love how far ahead Saudi Arabia thinks, and its determination to find its own answers. Some things take years of work. There is no shortcut through them. My own path there is teaching me patience every day. I know it may look as though I’m crawling towards Saudi Arabia at the speed of a snail. Or a tortoise. 😅 But I feel much closer now than I did in the spring of 2025. Back then, I could see where I wanted to go on a map. But I couldn’t even find the strength to get from the sofa to my desk. How was I supposed to manage some 9,000 kilometres, and all the professional and bureaucratic “buts” along the way? So I’ve been doing small things in that direction, even when it takes an effort to make myself do them. Often there is no immediate result. I do the next thing anyway. I’ve never been so sure about where I want to go. Sometimes I wish I’d allowed myself that certainty much earlier. As for the rest of me… I studied physics, then law. These days I work in technology governance and implementation. I like figuring out how things work, including what happens when people actually have to use them. There is a lot I want to understand. Science, politics, history, art, languages, the things people invent and the choices they make. Books and films regularly send my thoughts off in several directions at once. I’ve never really understood fictional immortals who complain about being bored. How can you be bored when you have all that time to keep discovering the world? I’m learning Arabic. I get excited about universities. And if I ever have a robot assistant, I want a slightly ridiculous one with a personality and a well-developed sense of sarcasm. I’ve given this some thought. 😂 Here, I write about the things I’m trying to understand, the things that move me or make me angry, and whatever has made me laugh that day. I also ask a lot of questions. I like being able to talk to people who know things I don’t.
