“All day whining” is crazy but sure, I’m happy to share the different versions I’ve heard over the years.
1. The most common one, which apparently I’ve come to learn is misconstrued, is the one where the vadzimu go on a period of rest and/or reflection. It is said that during this month, the vadzimu temporarily pause their oversight of the physical world to commune directly with the Musikavanhu. So since they are considered absent, they therefore cannot witness, protect, or bless any of our earthly celebrations or life events like roora or weddings. Even rituals like kurova makuva are frowned upon during this hiatus so having such events is considered disrespectful and risky because they don’t have that blessing from the ancestors.
3. I’ve also heard one about how matare will be closed during that month so the sabhukus wouldn’t be available for any dispute resolution and as a result they put a ban on the big events that had the potential to turn into some sort of chaos or would need their ruling.
Then there’s the agriculture one. I’d only heard of it at a high level before i.e. “the rains are coming so it’s peak sowing season, all efforts should be focused on that,” however your detailed explanation shows it’s somewhat a culmination of the first, second and this last one. It’s all honestly fascinating but like I mentioned, the information is plenty but it’s just difficult to verify and know which version is actually accurate or maybe all are accurate, idk 🤷🏾♀️.
