One of the tasks I worked on for Forgotten Island was establishing the tone and atmosphere of a script. It was a lot of fun. To me, Raissa was clearly a clever character, but Joe was incredibly talented too. She had a creative mind and a unique ability to anticipate future trends. I visited LAIKA a few years back and saw some sets and characters from this film and was blown away by the scale and artistry. An animated film has never been nominated for Production Design or Cinematography because most voters don’t understand how animation works but the level of cinematic craftsmanship is undeniable
