Didn't get promoted into that Director position because you lack gravitas? Vague feedback doesn't help you close the gap. Ask for examples. What would you have done differently? What examples can your leader provide? That's feedback you can act on. Gravitas is not actionable.

Defensiveness is a waste of energy. Make feedback useful by treating it as a data point. When you get feedback you deem unfair, think: What would they have had to see to arrive at it? That's the gap you can close and it's usually fixable and leading somewhere better.
Put your insecurities away and get on with achieving your goals. Reflect and remind yourself that an accurate criticism is the most valuable feedback you can receive. Imagine how silly and unproductive it would be to respond to your ski instructor as if he were blaming you when he told you that you fell because you didn't shift your weight properly. It's no different if a supervisor points out a flaw in your work process. Fix it and move on. #principleoftheday

Sometimes staying authentic means walking away from roles or cultures that fundamentally conflict with who you are. This isn't career suicide; it's career strategy. lttr.ai/AlBYc #Leadership
