I really recommending reading this. In summary, a company which does ID verification for in-person interactions (hotels, car rentals, ID verification for alcohol or marijuana, etc) has some how exposed over 153,000,000 drivers licenses for people in the United States and Canada. It is a catastrophic data breach, probably one of the worse I've ever seen. If you're in the United States and have traveled, gotten a hotel, purchased marijuana or alcohol, there is a high probability you're in this. Unlike other breaches, this includes a photo of the person (from the license), making verification you've identified the person significantly easier. This poses a significant threat to celebrities (musicians, YouTubers, streamers, adult entertainers, actors, etc), politicians, lawyers, wealthy people (CEOs, investors, people of public interest), Law Enforcement Officers, etc Krebs himself, and several other security researchers, have already confirmed they're in the data leak. tl;dr gah damn dawg this company is going to be sued into oblivion krebsonsecurity.com/2026/09/…

It’s kind of crazy that after all the progress we’ve made with passwords, 2FA, and now passkeys, the end result is still just… a cookie! Attackers will follow the value and take the path of least resistance, and that means shifting to abusing the authenticated session instead. Check out my blog post and our new white paper on Passkeys!
The @NCSC is right to push passkeys. They’re a huge step forward for authentication: phishing-resistant, no shared secret on the server, far better than passwords in many ways. But passkeys don’t make your application trustworthy after login. You still need to deal with session abuse, XSS, CSRF, malicious passkey registration, and transaction manipulation. Our founder @Scott_Helme wrote about the security considerations teams need to think about when rolling out passkeys and published a white paper: scotthelme.co.uk/security-co… #CYBERUK26

GPT-4.5 is ready! good news: it is the first model that feels like talking to a thoughtful person to me. i have had several moments where i've sat back in my chair and been astonished at getting actually good advice from an AI. bad news: it is a giant, expensive model. we really wanted to launch it to plus and pro at the same time, but we've been growing a lot and are out of GPUs. we will add tens of thousands of GPUs next week and roll it out to the plus tier then. (hundreds of thousands coming soon, and i'm pretty sure y'all will use every one we can rack up.) this isn't how we want to operate, but it's hard to perfectly predict growth surges that lead to GPU shortages. a heads up: this isn’t a reasoning model and won’t crush benchmarks. it’s a different kind of intelligence and there’s a magic to it i haven’t felt before. really excited for people to try it!

Well done to @Microsoft for implementing Scareware blockers on their Edge browser. This is a fantastic feature which detects those fake AV popups loved by scammers! Long overdue, but great to see this: microsoft.com/en-us/edge/upd…
