Half the EU is already buckling under mass migration.
Anyone who tells you free movement wouldn't drag that problem straight across the Channel is talking out of their backside. Every migrant handed a passport in Paris, Berlin or Stockholm gets a free ticket to Britain.
And that's the real game. Sign up to free movement, then shrug and say "sorry, Brussels won't let us control our borders."

Andy Burnham has told the Sunday Times that he is open to readopting free movement as part of a closer relationship with the EU. This would be an utter affront to all those - including the millions of working-class voters in Labour's traditional heartlands - who voted for Brexit. At a time when our immigration system remains completely broken, it would also be a calamitous own goal. Under no circumstances should the Labour party go along with it.

This is all true. The speed and scale of the change are seismic and unprecedented. And it is not leading to the multicultural utopia that elitist liberal-progressive voices predicted.
